Mr. Turing’s contributions were outstanding. Not only was he a mathematical genius, he contributed greatly to the field of computer science. Additionally, without his efforts at Bletchley Park, we would all be speaking German now.

    1. I have Passed by Dr. Turing’s statue and sat on the bench next to it, many times on visits to Manchester. It has always stirred a thought of promise unfullfilled and the injustices perpetuated in the name of religion and bigotry. Sometimes I have shed a tear while there on a warm afternoon. I am a computer and electronics engineer, so have an affinity as well as being LGBT, but that should not prevent others recognising gross injustice and violation of basic human rights, still prevalent and endemic in many many parts of the world.

  2. Not wanting to get too technical here, but a pardon addresses the punishment of a crime – not the conviction as stated in this article. If you’re pardoned, you don’t have to serve the sentence which you got but the conviction stands.

A few inaccuracies in the article but you also missed out the person who started the petition that kicked all of this off with the number 10 petition in November 2011. It would have been nice to get a mention!
