A US LGBT Republican group has condemned a video campaign aimed at encouraging gay people to sign up for President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, calling it “cynical” and “pathetic.”

The campaign, created by Full Frontal Freedom for the non-government coalition Out2Enroll, features a woman in a fur coat singing a parody of the Christmas song “Let it snow” while a group of attractive gay men dance and frolic in underwear and christmas hats.

The lyrics urge gay people to “get enrolled,” meaning to sign up for affordable healthcare and insurance.

Log Cabin Republicans executive director Gregory Angelo, however, claims the ad campaign promotes “harmful stereotypes.”

In a statement, he said: “This cynical ad betrays the depths Obamacare advocates will sink to in order to pad their pathetic enrollment numbers.”

He added that President Obama should attempt to distance himself from the campaign.

“As a self-proclaimed “fierce advocate” of gay equality, President Obama would do well to distance himself from this nonsense and denounce it immediately. This ad is also an example of the left promoting harmful stereotypes that gay men are nothing more than sex-crazed lechers. If anyone on the right made such a comparison, liberals would be apoplectic.

“At a time when left-wing propagandists are decrying Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson for equating homosexuality with promiscuity and deviance, Out2Enroll and others should take a look in the mirror and ask if the truth is that they are the ones responsible for promoting such harmful stereotypes.”

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama announced a $100 million (£61.3m) funding initiative by the US National Institutes of Health to find a cure for HIV.

A senior official with the Department of Health and Human Services also told transgender rights groups that federal health programmes and companies receiving federal dollars are barred from discriminating against trans people.
