  1. Next up “some of my best friends are gay”

  2. I somehow doubt that Rivera would feel that some choice phrases referencing his Hispanic heritage can be defended by “when we were growing up … those comments were commonplace”.

Or the fact that he is Jewish too. He works for Fox, a right wing homophobic channel whose CEO Roger Ailes according to friends in New York has an office with bullet proof windows in case aggressive gay activists try to shoot him. I’m not making this up.

  3. I see. So, applying exactly the same argument, “n!gger” isn’t a racist slur, then.

  4. You know that old relative you have who makes really inappropriate racist comments at family events, and you try to just stuff cake in their mouth before their instability is exposed to all your guests? Geraldo is now officially of that breed.

This is like people in the South suggesting that in the 1950’s racism was commonplace, so therefore we should just forgive it when it happens now. Of course, what he’s ignoring is that if we ignore this society never moves on. Society never evolves if we just accept the previous bigotry of past generations.

America would not have a black president right now if the notion of “giving people some slack” was actually accepted.

This guy is a moron, so are 90% of the viewers of Faux News, so are the majority of Republicans, Christians, Catholics…

    1. Better to give slack people some stick I say.

You said, “This guy is a moron, so are 90% of the viewers of Faux News, so are the majority of Republicans, Christians, Catholics”
You sound like some bigoted, intolerant idiot yourself making such a stupid remark. Grow up! People like you are part of the problem!

      1. Midnighter 23 Dec 2013, 8:32pm

LoL. If you are going to call people out for making sweeping generalisations, ending your comment with “People like you” is probably not the most convincing way of going about it.

Bloke Toys sounds representative of many ignorant people who make stupid statements so if he fits a generalization of ignorant people — than as Forrest Gump, said, “Stupid is as stupid does” –Bloke Toys fits that category.

          1. Midnighter 24 Dec 2013, 8:49pm

BlokeToys also made some intelligent points I thought, and these contradict your conclusion, or did you find his analogy of 1950s attitudes towards racism also stupid? Was his point about a black president not pertinent?

It seems to me what BlokeToys did was make several valid points, and one that wasn’t (or at the least, wasn’t backed up). On balance, if we are to believe that wise philosopher Mr Gump, I make that “intelligent is as intelligent does” but perhaps you also didn’t care for his earlier points?

At any rate, I can see how you might take issue with that comment so personally I’d have just gone with the “put up or shut up” line and asked him to show his data ;-)

  5. In exactly the same way that “C0cksucking TV presenter” is not a slur against television show hosts or “C0cksucking Christian fundamentalist” is not a slur against bigoted Christian hypocrites with ZZ Top style beards. Also in exactly the same way “Fagsucking C0ck” is not in any way a slur against homophobic smoker Alec Baldwin

He replied: “You have to give people some slack.”
    He’s had his slack.

If someone makes a one-off mistake, apologises and improves their behaviour, fine:end of story. If someone repeatedly makes the same “mistake” then it suggests that it wasn’t a mistake at all, and they simply don’t care to change their attitude.

This comment is a classic attempt to undermine the validity of any offence caused. Next he’ll be suggesting people need to get thicker skins.

It isn’t the individual remark itself that is the major problem, it is the failure to correct a pattern of behaviour and the net result of that behaviour which people are objecting to.

  7. Rivera is a dim-witted has-been.

  8. Rivera is a prime example of the statement It is better to have the world think you’re stupid and keep quiet about it than open your mouth and confirm to the world that you’re stupid

  9. you’re a COCKSUCKING SPICK……….Geraldo!!!!!!

I’m bewildered at why anyone, who pretends to have a thinking mind, would pay any attention at all to anything that came out of Fox news — especially Rivera, who, all his career, has seemingly hopped from network to network, depending upon which one would broadcast his vile.

Why is sucking cock something that str8 men deride? Don’t they all desire it? I’m tired of trying to understand the str8 mindset. Let them build bridges to ME, for a change.
