Thank you, Bob Newhart! You are a decent and principled man.

  2. Yet another PR facepalm.

There are a couple of problems with this fiasco that make me wonder where the common sense is…

    1. Why did it take a week of people posting on his FB page and sending him Tweets before he announced the cancellation? A sensible person would have nipped this in the bud immediately, not wasted a week of rumors, blogging, speculation and damage to public image. Thousands who saw the original story will now never know that he has cancelled the performance and his image has been permanently tarnished.

    2. Why such a simple and straightforward response? Don’t people deserve a little more than just saying “It’s cancelled”? Was it cancelled because of public pressure, or because he discovered what it was about? Is he really a principled person, or just admitting defeat and hoping it’s going to go away?

He needs to hire a decent PR person, someone who knows what social media can do to a persons reputation in just 24 hours. A proper statement is needed.

    1. He owes us no explanation. People complained he was going to appear before this group and he’s cancelled his appearance. Case closed.

Perhaps we should hear from Newhart himself, see what his personal views are first before celebrating this as a defeat for bigotry.

  4. All right,bob

  5. so a cake baker gets sued for not doing his job and discriminating but this is good?

If you don’t see the hypocrisy and double standard of suing a cake baker for not wanting to follow his principles and denying service vs this, I don’t know what to say.
