I always thought he was one of us. Well done!

  2. Did he really think people thought he was straight? God almighty!

  3. Barely a hand clap for old queens in their 50s who come out 2 decades after they retired from competitive skating.

Why be so hateful about it? His coming out now means there are three out LGBT people in the American group. That’s good, isn’t it?

    2. Just because he’s come out to the press now does not mean he’s been hiding away for two decades.

Do you really think he hasn’t been open about his sexuality to those in his life until this point?

He’s been thrust back into the limelight. Now is the right time. It gains attention to the cause and sends a good message.

Not everyone who comes out in this way has been in hiding. The press wouldn’t have given a rats ass about this if he’s come out six months ago.

And all I can think of is the song from South Park The Movie :-)

  5. That finally puts an end to a LOT of speculation over the years! His main rival at the 1988 Games, Brian Orser, was outed against his will during a court case. Figure skating is still surprisingly closeted, I’m only now finding out that several skaters I was a fan of in the 80s and 90s are gay (though I had strong suspicions about Brian for a few years!) There is a huge momentum for change building up now, especially in the USA, which is great to see so I say let’s welcome Brian’s decision. It’s never too late!

  6. Looking forward to a new verse or two of the classic South Park song “What Would Brian Boitano Do?”

    1. So what would Brian Boitano do
      If he were here today,
I’m sure he’d kick an ass or two,
      That’s what Brian Boitano’d do.

Cos Brian Boitano doesn’t take $hit from an-e-y-body

    2. …. come out when you were never in. That’s what Brian Boitano’d do.

  7. A male figure skater came out as gay? Oh my. Who’s next? A female golfer? :-) Good for him and good for Obama who’s making a very strong point with his delegate choices.

This is what the Russian anti-gay laws are based upon.
