  1. Oh look, another American puppet, using religion to cover their bigotry. Also, how is opposing gay marriage in any way liberal?

    1. The party probably was relatively liberal at one time, but was since infiltrated by people who aren’t liberal.

    2. The Liberal Party was so called because of its centre-right policies of economic liberalism (confusingly, it has nothing to do with social liberalism).

    Religious bullcr@p aside.

Just how is allowing some citizens of your country the SAME RIGHTS you enjoy in need of your or anyone else’s f#”%ing conscience.

  3. The fact that this fvckwit refers to “consensual sexual relations between humans and animals” says everything you need to know about his mind.

(Or perhaps that’s his way of excusing his, erm, devoted relationship to his spaniel.)

  4. So this right-wing nutter thinks that a government should be comprised of only people who agree with his views? What an utter waste of skin.
If anyone should be removed from government it’s this man, he is expressing anti-democratic views and attempting to attack the very notion of fair representation in democratic government.

This man should not be a politician.

  5. Another pathetic brainwashed religious homophobe. Yes – marriage IS between and man and a woman. But who – apart from religion – says it should not be between two people of the same sex? Where in ANY logic does it say that two people of the same sex should not be allowed to love each other and establish a ‘CIVIL’ union? Religion does not OWN ‘marriage’.

He’s a bloody religious (catholic) nutter. Hypocritical to say front benchers shouldn’t express their personal views but he’s expressing his and the official doctrine of his church. Boot him out, Australia.

And out of step with the current Pope Francis.

Its these kind of people and the remarks they make that ultimately changes the public opinion on gay marriage. They see how inane these politicians and their arguments are and they then begin to show support to the politicians who agree with gay marriage. I’d encourage him to speak out more. The more the political tide turns against them, the more stupid and desperate their remarks become.

  8. He’s made it clear enough that his wife married an ass so perhaps he should shut his gob from now on about bestiality and polygamy.

  9. “When you are a frontbencher there is no room for a personal view”. Actually, it is because you are a front bench MP that you should make your views known. Goodness knows the ones on the back bench certainly would and indeed do.

Why is it homophobic nutters spout the same nut job lunacy and obvious illogic no matter where in the world they reside? Is there a memo the rest of us have no access to?

  11. Remind me again how an animal could give legal consent. Thick as a turd baking in the Australian sun.

  12. I get so tired of these strange people who say equal marriage will inevitably lead down the slippery slope to people marrying their toasters/hoovers/dead auntie Mary/pet rat etc. Wasn’t there a cartoon going around on facebook last explaining things very carefully and simply to those without a brain? Although as Rehan has noted, the very fact he mentions consensual sex between humans animals tells us all we need to know.

The Abbott government was tight in challenging the ACT legislation. The fact that the High Court, in a unanimous decision and composed of at least one out and proud lesbian, ruled against the same-sex law is proof enough of this. Bernardi is out-of-step and belongs to the extreme right-wing of the Liberal Party. It is time for him, not Turnbull, to reign. The Liberal Party should be better than that.

  14. This guy is a major embarrassment to the australian people. I am australian and this man DOES NOT represent me. Australian are NOT homophobic, unlike the uk and us where certain parts are bible thumpers, australia doest have this, you can be gay anywhere in australia and nobody will say a thing. Our government are homophobic and xenophobic and mysogynistic.

In vetoing a conscience vote on same-sex marriage, Tony Abbott has to all intents and purposes admitted his own defeat on the subject. Whenever someone says, “Shut up. I’m right. You’re wrong,” it’s a sure sign that they’ve run out of rational arguments. It’s just a matter of time now.
