  1. I finally got to see the movie this week! Any one who can recall or wants to learn more about Liberace, can definitely have benefit from the insight if they experience this movie.

Douglas was awesome in his portrayal of Liberace. Once I was past the infatuation with how good Matt Damon looks, he impressed me with his delivering a likeable even loveable interpretation of Scott Thorson. The press or media were never quite as kind to him, but Damon for the most part makes one feel sympathetic to his feeling discarded and his downfall. Rob Lowe I barely recognized. Debbie Reynolds (initially) was barely recognized as Liberace’s mother, so the cast do much credit to the characters they played.

The amount of “Glitz” almost makes it seem fake and pretentious, but pretend was what Liberace was good at!

It deserves the accolades, because of all involved. It was well done and a realistic representation of who and what Liberace was about both publicly and privately.

  2. we know there are many homophobes in Hollywood -shame on them . great see that HBO produce ‘gay’ programmes thank you to them. I know the Queer as Folk (US version) is not for everyone but at least there producing programme – what do ITV and the BBC produce here for the LGBT community -nothing – by the way hope HBO make tons of money out of the film so make those in power at the Hollywood studio’s look dumb with their homophobia

I hope it wins something. The standard of acting in the film is just incredible, with both Douglas and Damon putting in excellent and completely believable performances. I know the script is very much from Scott Thorson’s point of view and LIberace can’t exactly tell his side of the story, but the tale of casual manipulation and gradual increased dependency demanded by an ageing and lonely superstar towards his companions really does come across as authentic.

And yet, in the USA this is classed as a “TV movie”. HBO really can show the big Hollywood studios how they should be making films if this is the standard they can produce.
