I wonder what brought this about? Welcome news!

  2. And are we supposed to be impressed or grateful – More gay couples cleaning up the hetero/ breeder mess of unwanted births – geee thanks!

    1. Adopters don’t adopt to clear up someone else’s mess. We adopt because we want a family. Adoption isn’t a mercy act.

    2. Breeder mess? Don’t you think it’s a good job your hetero parents ‘bred’?

Apparently, safesex does not think it’s a good job his parents bred. Since he knows more about his specific case than I do, I’ll trust his judgment on that.

This ruling is long overdue, but subject to an appeal remember too!!!

England & Wales and Scotland allow adoption of children by gay couples for years. Here in Australia only NSW, ACT, TAS and WA allow adoption of children by gay couples!!!!!

Northern Ireland also still bans same sex marriages (while Scotland and England & Wales have been in the middle of the complicated process of legalisation)!!!!!

Northern Ireland also bans blood donations for life from gay men and bisexual men – while Scotland and England & Wales allow blood donations from gay men and bisexual men (only after 1 year, the same for Australia)!!!!

Northern Ireland is like Australia – so far behind the times it has become a total joke and laughing stock!!!!!!

A good old fashioned “Order-In-Council” in UK, Westminster from the Queen – should do the big trick to get both Australia and Northern Ireland to comply on adoption, same-sex marriages and blood donation equalities!!!!!!

  4. Northern Ireland and Australia are twin brothers in being behind the times and a laughing stock embarrassment – because they are always behind there cousins on issues such as abortion, adoption, civil partnerships, marriage equality, blood donations, etc (e.g. Canada, Denmark, 1/3 of the United States, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, France, New Zealand, etc).

An “Order-In-Council” should force the government of Northern Ireland to join the rest of the UK!!!!!

The “Order-In-Council” should contain adoption, blood donation, civil partnership and marriage equality – that is in truly in-line with Scotland, England and Wales laws on these subjects!!!!!

An “Order-In-Council” should also force Australia to join the UK (and the rest of the western developed world for that matter on marriage equality and blood donations). Adoption is a state by state issue that is illegal for gay couples still in VIC, NT, QLD and SA.

    1. MISTAKE

Add: – “South Africa” [After New Zealand]…

South Africa should be added because surprisingly for an African country – they have marriage equality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Netherlands and Belgium as well should be added too!!!!

Luxembourg will be the next country to have marriage equality in 2014!

Ireland by a marriage equality referendum in 2015! (SUPPORT AT OVER 70%).

Finland, Germany, Australia and Switzerland under right-wing conservative bigoted coalition governments, it is just NOT POSSIBLE to have marriage equality – until the next round of elections!!!!!!!

The Australian Senate is left-wing until 1 July, 2014!!!!!!

Even if a marriage equality bill passed in the Australian Senate – it would be DOA in the House of Reps by the Coalition headed by Tony Abbott.

No Different to ENDA in the US – that passed the Senate, but DOA in the House of Reps!!!!!!

        [DOA means “Dead On Arrival”]

Dear LGBTQ-community in Northern Ireland- here I’m again ! Embracing all progress you can achieve. More will follow. Warm wishes from Norway !

Great news. I see my neighbours 4 year old every day when around and see my nephews who are 4 and 2. Boy do I just adore them. Yes I do the toilet stuff as well. You see the world fresh through their eyes all over again. Also they are a great work out…lol

Well done Northern Ireland. Kids being given a second chance and couples the freedom to create a family and give and receive love. Lots of hard work as well. It’s hard worthy work.

I wish all couples who do this energy and happinesss.

  7. This is good news, but if I’ve understood the article correctly, it only came about through the courts? Obviously it’s better than nothing, but it would have been better for change like this to come about through government action rather than the courts.

But it’s still a step in the right direction, hopefully only the first step on the road to full equality for Northern Ireland’s LGBT population.
