  1. This is beyond ridiculous. Why didn’t the people who donated money to her donate it to charity instead?

Oh, please. It was an act of solidarity, and a sign that people wouldn’t stand for bigotry. It seems to me to be highly ungrateful to the people who stood up against homophobia to dismiss their anger like this. Indeed, if I had sent money, I’d be a little offended if the recipient had claimed to give it to charity before backtracking. I’d be outraged if I found out they’d lied.

Anyone can raise funds for a charitable organization, but you have to adhere to the rules of that organization to do so.

Giving a donation to an individual like her is a mark of solidarity, that is why they donated to her rather than directly to the charity itself.

You can ask the same questions of yourself when you are donating… rather than give money to the DEC in the UK, you could make a donation directly to the charities it supports in disaster areas. You choose not to because you want that donation registered as coming from the UK as a whole, as a mark of our nations support.

    3. People with any empathy would donate directly to her to try to make her feel better… Too bad many people got taken by her hoax…unfortunately there is always ready to scam people with good hearts! She should be charged with intent to defraud. She gave it a lot of thought and actions shows fraud!

  2. “Some have gone so far as to say that she should be prosecuted by the state for her actions.”

If it does turn out to be true that she made the whole thing up, then clearly she should be prosecuted: it’s fraud. It sounds to me like the girl may have sociopathic tendencies.

  3. So she has gone from a liar to felony fraud. Nice :/
Grandpa used to say; “Give and give well, but watch for the Con in every corner”.

  4. Actually, if in fact Morales did invent the incident, she can/should be prosecuted under federal law, as the alleged fraud crossed interstate lines via the Internet. Not sure about the international implications. The Wounded Warrior Project, which was the charity she said would be getting the money, has found no record of a donation with her name or the zip codes where she works or lives. They are a very reputable organization, doing crucial work in helping returning vets, and that they have been dragged into this drama is infuriating veterans, particularly Marines, here in the states.

  5. This woman is a congenital liar with a history of eliciting donations with bogus sob stories. Among claims she has made before are: a) that she was raped and gave birth to the rapist’s baby; b) that she has a brain tumour; c) that she served in Iraq and Afghanistan (denied by her regiment); d) that she was the sole survivor of an explosion that killed the rest of her platoon; again, this never happened; e) that Hurricane Sandy tore through her wall.

She was given a dishonourable discharge from the Army after going AWOL.

In view of all this, I am not at all surprised to hear that she has not passed on money given tp her in good faith for a good cause. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that she’s not even a lesbian.

Furthermore, far from being homophobes, the family she slandered refused to vote for NJ Governor Chris Christie because he does not support gay marriage.

Moral: just because you don’t like Christians, don’t believe everything you read about them. I’m not one, by the way.

She is NOT part of our community! We don’t need people who do stuff like this and drag us down! We have come too far in the last few years. Send her to jail for theft! That’s exactly what she did!

    1. What community? The one of people who sleep with members of the same sex? Of course she’s a member of that “community” if she’s a lesbian. Gay people can lie, cheat, and steal just as much as straight people. We are no worse, but no better than them either.

I agree clivejw. It’s the Americans who give us this nonsense. Being American is an ideal whereas to be a Frenchman is a fact.
It is the same with being gay. It is not an ideal. It is a fact.

  7. The frustrating thing is that extremist conservatives will use this as evidence that “the gays are bad through and through”

Westboro must be having a field day having some further ammunition

    1. Midnighter 6 Dec 2013, 10:08pm

Although to be fair, all of those you mention will invent and exaggerate whatever suits them anyway, and their followers all lap those lies up without checking the facts anyway. Its not great, but it really is a drop in the ocean of the baseless nonsense that a large part of America believes ‘on faith’.

    2. A gay man or a lesbian could discover a cure for cancer or save Fred Phelps’ miserable life and it wouldn’t make any difference to the nutcases from Westboro. Forget them. Their “church” is under a hundred people, all of them members of Phelps’ extended family. Their influence is exaggerated by continual coverage in media like Pink News.

As W.C. Fields said in his movies, “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

    1. Christopher Coleman 8 Dec 2013, 2:10am

Very true, but you don’t expect to be suckered by one of your own.

  9. BlokeToys 7 Dec 2013, 4:06pm

If the fresh accusations are correct, she should be prosecuted for fraud, that’s what this is. Anyone collecting money from others as charitable donations has to use those funds openly for the purpose for which people understood they were donating.

Any money used in any other way by those collecting it is fraud, plain and simple.

I expect they’ll now be looking at where that money has gone, how much has been spent, and then taking her to court. Rightly so.

  10. Christopher Coleman 7 Dec 2013, 6:20pm

This lesbian has made fools of all the LGBT people (and their friends) who supported her. It’s just what we can do without.
