Launch of older LGBT housing guide in Manchester

Stonewall Housing and the Manchester Older LGBT Housing group have announced the launch of “The North West Housing Guide for the older LGBT community”.

It’s hoped the guide will make it easier for older LGBT people to find residential accommodation in the North-West of England which can cater for their needs.

It will be available to download free of charge on the Stonewall Housing website from Thursday.

Stonewall’s research into the experiences and expectations of older LGBT people has found that three in five respondents were not confident that social care and support services, like paid carers or housing services, would understand or be sensitive to their needs. Half said they would be uncomfortable coming out to care home staff and one third said they would be uncomfortable being out to a housing provider.

Sweden opened its first senior housing facility for LGBT people in central Stockholm last month.
