  1. Elton John is a TERRIBLE example for any human being.

A craven man motivated solely by greed. He whores himself to the highest bidder – even this means performing in apartheid era South Africa, or Russia, or as the wedding singer for Rush Limbaugh.

And it’s hardly a good example for a man in his late 60’s to become a parent. Especially considerong he is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic.

I don’t know that he’s “terrible”, but he’s not exactly on the top of my wish list, either! I wonder that he has become the Gay Community icon (as joked about on TV’s Will and Grace) by default. Perhaps anyone else that would have been by now died in the 80’s and 90’s…

    2. sorry but that is total rubbish

With you there, historically he has not always been out and proud. Secondly if he is getting married to set an example then there is something wrong, that is not a reason to get married.

Really? He’s a role model to the gay community for marriage equality? Interesting that the author conveniently omits the singers comments on the subject just 5 years ago:

“I don’t want to be married,” he told USA TODAY’s Donna Freydkin at a New York fundraiser last night. “I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” said John. “The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.” (source:

    1. Did you never change your mind about something? Of course, you have to have one in the first place for this to happen…

I applaud Elton’s charity work, but… such a vanity to think that his personal life is an example to be emulated.

Seeing as David is Canadian, why haven’t they gotten married yet in Canada? They’ve had ten years! I think something else is going on in that relationship.

  5. Simply amazing. After being pulled out of the closet so forcefully that he still has the splinters under his fingernails, Elton re-invents himself as role model for gay people. If we’re looking for a role model for gay people, how about one who has been open and honest about his sexuality from the outset, rather than one who – in spite of being a parody of a panto dame – marries a woman to use as his beard until he’s ready to come out and then it’s gay, gay, gay all the way because he’s such a champion for us all. Pathetic.

  6. He lost any sense of credibility when he declared Lady Gaga one of the most talented artists in the world. Artflop.

    Dear Elton
    You are not an example.
When I was a young teenager looking for role models you were a married man singing about Nikita and how much you loved her.
Then when you had sold enough records and made enough money to be ‘safe’, you came out and now seem to have appointed yourself as a spokesperson for the gay community.
Please do not speak on my behalf.
    You are a prick

    1. Just FYI Nikita is about a man not a woman. It is a common male name in Russia which is where the song is set.

“…although the Catholic Church and Church of England is opposed to equal marriage and will not permit such ceremonies in its venues.”

The RC Church and the CofE are TWO churches, so what do we say, children? We say “are”, not “is”, and “their”, not “its.”

  9. Elton…seriously…YOU NEED to promote somethin’ apprently to feel the need to “set an example” to seem relevent these days! go back to bed!

then why didn’t they get married in Canada over a decade earlier( David is Canadian). Why did they settle for Civil Union in England. And in Canada there is no residency requirement

  11. Fair enough that Elton John thinks he should marry. I watched him leave the Sebel Town House in Sydney when he married Renate. He looked no more than a chubby happy boy in a fancy white suit. For me it doesn’t matter when he came out. His talent thrilled many although I wasn’t a fan. I am glad he has found contentment although his life style doesn’t fit my idea of a a sustainable world.

  12. Oh, go away, ,Elton, you fat pig. You are NOT a good role model for gay youth. You are a lavish lifestyle-lover. You have no connection to ordinary gay men and women who struggle to get food into their mouths.

Just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you represent all gay people and nor does it mean that all gay people want you to represent them, Elton.

  13. “You have to set an example” by singing for drug-addled neo-cons, singing with homophobic white rappers, singing for Russian haters/closets. And the example you set is “greed is good”.

  14. GO AWAY! For the love of humanity, and our ears, PLEASE GO AWAY.

  15. What a tired queen.

  16. Does sound pretty egotistical, but the sad thing is, he’s right, a lot of people are celebrity obsessed and what he does will have influence on them. Personally I can’t stand the guy, but he does some good work so I think some of the comments here are a tad unfair. Credit where credit is due.
