  1. we have reported hate crime to Lambeth before abd they didn’t really take it seriously until GALOP got involved. I hope reports are taken more seriously now there bis a coordinator there. but tge apathy of the ASB and housing teams was disappointing at best

Hi Steve, I am sorry to hear that your experience dealing with Hate Crime In Lambeth was not taken seriously until GALOP got involved, now that I am Lambeth’s Hate Crime Coordinator I hope that I can help change that. Clearly there are issues that need to be addressed and I hope to do that by bringing as many people as possible around the table to work together. We will do it – if you want to be kept informed then join our new Lambeth Hate Crime Mailing list so you’ll receive updates on what we are doing. GALOP details: Galop gives independent advice and support to people who have experienced biphobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexual violence or domestic abuse. We also support lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people who have had problems with the police or have questions about the criminal justice system. We are a completely independent community-led group and we are not connected to the police. You can contact us anonymously if you choose.

Since Pink News starting covering this story last week three people have mentioned in the Pink News comment’s section that they have experienced or know people who have experienced homophobic hate crime. A couple attacked in 2009 location unknown, a friend threatened on a bus in Brixton a couple of weeks ago, another couple attacked whilst holding hands (mention of a boyfriend scarred for life after a glass was smashed in his face – date/location unknown not Lambeth). And I’ve received a couple of e-mails – last Saturday 16th Nov a man homophobically abused at 8am outside Chariots Vauxhall, and a cyclist knocked off his bike in Vauxhall and beaten in 2012 – says reported to the Police but they never got back to him. I’ve noted all these cases and where possible will follow them up – if anyone else has experience Hate Crime in Lambeth – let me know about it so that we can establish what the problem is and what we need to do to resolve it.

  4. It was an inspiring event to be part of.Short, simple but powerful.
