  1. No doubt we’ll have to listen to homophobic nonsense during the debate from the likes of John Mason, Elaine Smith, Alasdair Allan, Fergus Ewing, Roseanna Cunningham and most of the Scottish Tories.

But seeing as 97 MSPs have pledged to support it, then I can’t see any reason why the bill won’t proceed to the next stage today.
There is no excuse for any of those 97 MSPs abstaining or not turning up to vote – having lunch with the First Minister certainly doesn’t count as an excuse!!! Seriously though, if even one of those who’ve pledged to support don’t do so, then they are just miserable cowards.

It won’t be any worse than the opposition south of the border, BennieM. It’s happened in every country where equal marriage has been introduced. MSPs will do the right thing at every stage, you’ll see. The more the nutters rant their nonsense, the more they guarantee successful passage.

  2. So what were the results of this vote?

    1. 98 in favour of equal marriage
      15 against equal marriage
      5 abstentions
9 MSPs were absent from the vote
