Polling the 127 members of the Scottish Parliament on 17 November 2013, the Scottish edition of Mail on Sunday (the Sunday edition of Daily Mail) found that 86 said they would vote “yes”; 11, “no”; 10 were undecided; and 20 refused to answer. The bill thus appears to enjoy a comfortable majority (64 votes are needed for approval) even in the unlikelihood that 41 members decide to vote “no.”

The vote on Wednesday evening will be the highest hurdle the bill must clear if it is to become law. Afterwards, all that would remain would be some further discussion, small changes proposed and voted on, a final vote on the revised version, and a few more minor and ceremonial matters easily and swiftly dispatched.

    It passed, 98-15!

  3. Fantastic!!! I can’t quite believe it!!!

  4. So let’s do the maths: 98 + 15 + 5 = 118. That means 10 MSPs didn’t turn up to vote at all. I’ll be very interested to read who voted for, who voted against, who abstained and who didn’t bother to turn up.
