  1. Most gay characters portrayed on television and film reinforce a negative stereotype. We aren’t all promiscuous drug taking queens.

  2. I love this man lol.

  3. He is right.

  4. Well, Fassbender’s character certainly WAS an addict, but Franco is right, there are worse sex-addicts out there. And yes, the gay club scene was disconcerting, but the fact is clubs like that exist, right across the world, and certainly in London, New York, Berlin, Paris, and so forth.

    1. AND there are straight clubs as depraved and debauched as that as well, let’s not forget!

      1. The fim implies that the worst kind of depravity a man can do is have sex with a man. It has aways been like that. Closeted directors making homophobic films… Paul Schrader, Michael Cimino and co.

Certainly Berlin and Paris. The English speaking countries seem a bit tamer.

    3. New York? Not these days, not anymore

  5. Yeah, that were my thoughts, too, when I watched the movie. I really didn’t understand what the big deal was, the character was promiscuous, so what? I think that they should have put more emphasis on the character’s inability to engage in a serious relationship and that he suffers because of that, but there really was only one scene, where he couldn’t have sex with a serious love interest in the hotel room and had to refer to a prostitute instead. The other scenes weren’t problematic for me, only promiscuous.

  6. I agree. That wasn’t so far removed from the “gay” scene in Midnight Cowboy. Has no progress been made? James Franco is honest and brave in a closeted world where so many sell out …
