I am sixty-seven years old and remember when homosexuality was decriminalized in this country. I also remember Roy Jenkins being ridiculed over his “permissive society” remarks. I am absolutely astounded at the progress made over gay rights in Britain, and gobsmacked at what has happened in the USA. Polls show that the majority of Americans are pretty laid back about what has happened, so one can only draw the conclusion that they are, at heart, much more liberal than they appear to have been, and that many have been afraid to let their real views be known. I am sure that many are hoping for a religious “revival” in the States, but it seems that the floodgates have now been opened and things will (we hope) never be the same again!
