  1. If this doesn’t indicate the extreme level of fear and oppression being suffered by ordinary Russian LGBT people, I do not know what does …..

    Er….. Ouch!!!

A very brave man and slightly disturbing too but frustration can do all sorts to a person.

Desperate times, desperate measures… May favourite platitude is ” I don’t want to be a Messiah, Messiahs dies young” – Men Without Hats

    Stapled.. testicles.. *faints*

  5. Stupid. What does this guy think stapling his boys to the street is going to do for gay rights? Nothing. Just stupid.

    1. I have to agree. Also I can’t work out HOW he did it. Staple gun, testicles, cobbles? HOW?

Your read it because he raised your awareness. It’s the actions of committed people like him to whom you owe your freedom.

Must have been a good stapler to staple into cobble stones

    1. Some cobbles are wooden.

    2. The nail also goes into the cement grout that the cobblestones are set into.

  7. Russia, learn something…you are well behind the times..Are you all slow thinkers?. Putin is a control freak. BE FREE, like the western people. Except we have a mad man in power at the mo/

    1. You have not seen madness until the LGBT takes over your country. You need to be grateful. You cannot fight against the laws of even nature itself. Conservative America is praying for your Russian Leader in this area of his stance against this immorality. And your comments back to me will not falter my ideals. I have been there and done that and know first hand the decadence of the lifestyle that you are defending!

At first read this sounds as if the man in the story is an exhibitionist fool. However, when one lists the growing abuse of gay people both officially and by thugs (including parents of gay people) whose behaviour appears to be condoned by government, then shouting and waving placards seems akin to sitting on a beach and commanding the tide to go out. The man on the cobbles *may* be seen as an idiot, but he is highlighting a desperate situation. People around the world (with the apparent exception of the IOC) are taking notice. Russia is rapidly becoming a mirror that other, homophobic/transphobic nations can look into and see themselves. I am waiting for the mirror to crack (cf, the legend that if evil looks in a mirror, it will crack).

  9. This nutter didn’t mention anything about gay rights, so why’s it a story for you?

Given that protesting against homophobia is something he’s done in a variety of ways before, I’m not sure what your point is…

From the tone of some of the comments left here about this “protest”, it is obvious that even some LGBTI people don’t see the point of it. Unfortunately, it would seem to be the sort of action that is necessary to make people aware of what the plight of the Russian LGBTI community is. This is the first protest, which has highlighted the issue, that I have seen in the mainstream media in New Zealand, since the new anti-gay legislation was passed.

  11. Please correct me if I am wrong anyone, but doesn’t the russian constitution say “No one may be subjected to torture, violence or any other harsh or humiliating treatment or punishment.”, democracy. ru/english/library/laws/constitution_eng/page2. html#P75_9894 So how come Putin is ignoring and doing his own thing by disobeying his own law? This is really confusing…

Putin is just using children to hide his own hatred towards gays and lesbians and to hide to plans against Syria. If this were clearly about children he would resort to something more better than hiding gay propaganda such as banning removing the sexualization humans for example.

    1. gays and lesbians cannot procreate therefore they will prey their ideals upon children to make more of them.

  12. I guess he wanted to start the Ball-shevik Revolution…
