I don’t know which disturbs me more: the old idea that “whatever goes on in MY bible is correct and therefore you are a sinner worthy of scorn and death”, or the idea that a gay couple would be caught shopping at a Walmart in the first place! Hve they no shame?

    1. This is Chickasha, Oklahoma where Walmart is considered upscale.

    2. Well, Walmart often has the lowest prices on DVDs/BluRays, so THIS gay couple are more or less regular customers there.

  2. Did Adam and Eve ever get married? I don’t recall a marriage ceremony in Genesis. And if they did get married in private and it wasn’t written about, who performed the ceremony? God? Or the talking snake? Maybe they got married by one of their incestuous children later on in life?

And why do I always get the feeling that most of the bigots who quote the bible have never actually read it.

No they didn’t but the religious nutters construe that the fairy tale regarding Adam falling asleep while the sky pixie took a rib from his side to create a woman is the reason they use to promote that marriage was ordained by their spirit in the sky. There was no ceremony of course and the first monotheistic religion, ergo Judaism didn’t even exist to prove such an absurd event over occurred given the age of the planet and the existence of mankind. It was merely a man-made invention. Notice all of these fairy tales occurred in the old (Jewish) testament.

    2. Of course they never read the Bible for themselves. These are some of the most stupid and mindless people you can come across so they have the preacher interpreted the Bible for them. Of course none of these preachers ever talk about the love story between David and Jonathan.

    3. htere was no adam and eve. If there was they were bonobons – a flat faced gorilla that is our closest cousin in the evolutionary trail
BTW the jerk who used the bible -more people have been murdered by it then the Koran

      the bible also justifies slavery

At Wal-mart, the only time they do anything pro-gay is if there’s a chance they’ll look bad in the press. They have a long history of being a “Southern” red-neck company that has donated millions towards anti-gay politicians, and until recently they have had anti-gay corporate policies.

They top the list of most despised American companies by Gays. Others are… Chick-fil-A, Urban Outfitters, ExxonMobil, The Salvation Army, Purina, Boy Scouts of America, Cracker Barrel, A-1 Self Storage Company, AutoZone Inc, Dish Network, Domino’s Pizza (btw: tastes terrible, the box has more flavor), and Meijer Inc. just to name a few.

It never fails to astonish me how sexual orientation is important when using storage facilities or buying petrol – or any other non-sexual activity.

    2. Their bigoted employee did cause them to lose sales… to the gay couple and to those who’d be turned off if they didn’t act on it. Bigotry vs $ … $ win!

  4. Someone I knew bought brokeback mountain in a Walmart and alarms went off. Apparently they would only sell it if the persons age could be verified by a supervisor. That was the ONLY DVD that happened to.

  5. I’m glad the manager of Walmart took action. Hating someone who is gay is like hating someone for the color of their skin. It’s pure craziness. Just wish everyone could leave others alone and we stop worrying who is doing what. There is more to life than interfering what others do and more important things.

“We weren’t holding hands. We weren’t kissing. We weren’t doing anything inappropriately”

Holding hands is not inappropriate neither is a simple kiss. We need to stop agreeing with bigots that what would be ordinary behaviour for straights is inappropriate because we are gay. We shouldn’t have to self censor out behaviour.

  7. What in the world is a “caretaker”?

    1. jamestoronto 10 Nov 2013, 4:49am

It’s a North American term for janitor. It’s someone who ‘takes care’ of a building.

      1. James Orpin 10 Nov 2013, 10:53am

Caretaker is the British word Janitor is American

smart ass got what he deserved: sacked.

Let’s see his bible pay his bills.

  9. It seems to be the case that the doctrines, scriptures, or teachings of any religion will offer justification for what you wanted to do anyway. It’s from those tenets that you choose to follow that the rest of us know what kind of person you are.

There are always little pockets of bigotry, no matter where you go, and I suspect there always will be.

As for Walmart — they’ve recently announced that they will recognize same-sex marriages for the purpose of employee benefits. That’s rather empty, considering that most of their employees don’t receive benefits, and way too many of them rely on food stamps and Medicaid because Walmart doesn’t pay a living wage. As for this case, they’ll fire this joker and hire someone to replace him for a lower wage, or not hire anyone at all.

  10. Well, the jerk’s comments were uncalled for, unnecessary, and demanded action, yes…but be damned if I would have left the store with my tail between my legs. Be offended, be mad, take action, whatever, but stand your ground.

  11. I wonder what that guy would have made of the fact that medieval catholic churches actually did ceremonies for two males with wording suspicious ly like a weddding vows

  12. Paul Brownsey 25 Nov 2013, 4:27pm

There bis nothing in the body of this story to support the claim made in the first para that the caretaker told them they were not allowed in the store.

    This is very suspect journalism.
