Scotland’s Health Secretary calls on MSPs to support equal marriage

  1. It’s fantastic that the Scottish government and a majority of MSPs support same sex marriage. It’s really good news that it is still progressing and I believe it’s almost certain to be passed without any problems.

    However, I wish that religious people weren’t being given opt-outs (officially or unofficially) by the Scottish government, as has been reported recently. It makes Alex Neil’s comments about equality for everyone in Scotland somewhat hollow when the Scottish government puts the right for people to be religious bigots above equality for LGBT people. They don’t advocate opt outs of other laws for other groups of people, so why do religious people always get an opt out on gay equality laws with the SNP?
