“The study sought to establish the incidence and prevalence of HIV infection, and other sexually transmitted infections among the high-risk populations”

High risk populations? Africans themselves are high risk! I think it’s a bit rich really considering 24% of adults in Botswana have HIV. They should be concentrating on actually treating the abundance of people with HIV rather than targeting minority groups, presumably to make scapegoats of them. Still you can’t really expect much from such a socially inept continent.

    1. brate gibson you are an idiot to blanket all people of africa as socially inept. you are a faggot.

As a gay man leaving in Botswna I find titlle of the article very misleading as no-one is being arrested.although i do agree that this strategy to curb hiv/aids is absurdThe government does not have the guts evn to arrest people even if it wanted to cause most Batswana do not really care about it.Most Batswana know and have interacted with gay people and could not care about it.Yes same sex relations are forbidden by the law but. The same law offers gay people protection in terms of emploment people as no-one is allowed to discriminate against a person in terms of sexual orientation. My prediction is this will die before its even suggested to Parliment to approve.

BOTSWANA DENIES ANY INTENT TO TARGET OR DEPORT GAY PERSONS AS PART OF HIV/AIDS STRATEGY.

In light of a number of misleading reports in the local press, some of which have now been picked up and further exaggerated outside of our country, the Government of Botswana wishes to once more reaffirm that it has no intent, much less strategy in place, to arrest, detain, deport or otherwise unduly target gay people as part of ongoing efforts to curb HIV/AIDS.

Further to the above we note that there is no reference to any such actions in a Ministry of Health Document entitled DRAFT STRATEGIES TO ADDRESS KEY POPULATIONS.
