A Christian couple in Missouri have stirred up controversy recently, when instead of providing a tip for a gay waiter’s “excellent service” at an Italian restaurant, they left him a homophobic note on their bill, which condemned his “lifestyle choices” and called him a “fag.”

KMBC news reports the 20-year-old, who works at a ‘Carrabbas’ restaurant in Kansas City, had just finished serving the couple when he received their written message, which thanked him for his “excellent” service, but made negative remarks about his sexuality.

The message read: “Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD.

“Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your fag choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly.

“It is never too late for GOD’S love, but none shall be spared for fags. May GOD have mercy on you.”

The waiter’s mother, who also works at the restaurant, said the couple were lucky she had not seen the message before they left.

In an interview with The Pitch, she said: “When this Mama Bear gets her hackles up, the claws come out.”

Friends of the server and customers took to social media to spread the word about the incident, and have promised to go to the restaurant on Friday night at 6:30 pm to show their solidarity.

The waiter has responded to these gestures, saying “The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated, but not at all needed. I’d prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else.”

According to KCTV, a local pastor Marvin Baker was among one of his supporters.

He said: “I was angry. I said this is not Christian as I know it.”

‘I said, “We are here to meet your celebrity. The one who was mistreated.” She said, “That’s my son. Would you like a table or booth?” I said, “Wherever he’s serving.”

In March, the infamous Westboro Baptist Church picketed a Radiohead concert in Kansas City, Missouri with trademark placards reading ‘God Hates Fags’ and others questioning the band’s song-writing abilities.

Last year, a video of a speech by a preacher in Springfield Missouri has gone viral because it contained a twist, where he used the example of speeches by pro-segregation preachers from the 1960s, replacing the word ‘integration’ with the word ‘gay rights’.
