  1. Why is this a story under the banner- Gay Couple Found Dead…? A couple was found dead, until there is official comment that their deaths could be attributed to them being gay Pink News is just doing what all the dirty tabloids will do. Try and act like a responsible reporting news service and not like one of the gutter press. Their sexuality is not important here.

Heard this yesterday. It is so sad and my heart goes out to all family and friends of this couple.

  3. Godric Godricson 24 Oct 2013, 12:23pm

I sense the reporter didn’t quite know what to do with this story. The tone falls somewhere between factual and concerned. Such a sad thing to have happened

I used to live about four doors down from the building site where this tragic incident occurred.

Twice, passing the site early in the morning on the way t the corner shop, I was forced to call the number for Monavan Construction (which is required to be printed on the hoardings outside of the site) because the site was not adequately secured. The reason on both occasions was that the access gate to the site was poorly constructed and had fallen off its hinges due to subsidence.

I do not know if this is how the poor guys gained access to the site, but it would not surprise me.

  5. The ghost of Patricia Highsmith was reportedly seen lurking in the area just prior to the incident.

  6. omg – I used to date one of Stuart’s housemates when he lived up in Birmingham – what a shock.

  7. “It is unclear whether or not they were trespassing, were they just walking along the footpath and then fell into the basement? it doesn’t add up, also the report of two men fighting is odd and makes this sound like it wasn’t exactly an accident.” (Miss Marple)

    1. I must admit that the story also strikes me as odd. What does ‘fighting’ mean? Terribly tragic, of course, but I wonder what exactly happened? Were other parties involved not seen at the time? Perhaps more will come out.

    2. Not sure what I wrote that deserved the thumbs down… really!

    3. I hope nobody thinks I was making light of this couples deaths, If I was was making light of anything it was my amateur sleuthing. There is too little detail in the article to go by but something doesn’t sound right.

This is just awful. My heart goes out to their families and friends. So tragic.

  9. Dan Filson 25 Oct 2013, 3:23pm

Is it known for sure that no others were involved? This might not be a fight between the two of them but them fighting off others.

  10. There was filmed report on the local TV news which showed the site.
The hole was directly next to the pavement and secured with a plywood fence.
The fence seems to have failed for some reason and the couple fell into the hole.
    Horribly tragic.

  11. This was a tragic accident that should never have happened. Stuart was my housemate in Birmingham and I met his partner Gavin. Police investigations continue. There is CCTV footage. Not sure the relevance of reporting on the fact they were gay. They were leaning against the inadequate barrier that should have prevented them falling 20ft into the basement. This has been deeply devastating to family and friends

  12. If you read other press about this story, you will find a more accurate description of what happened, notably that they were arguing and not fighting.
