Herefordshire Pride to close at end of month

Herefordshire Pride, who are responsible for organising LGBT events throughout the county, faces closure at the end of October.

The committee has run successful annual Pride festivals in Hereford for the past few years – but has fallen on hard times combined by a drop-off in support.

Organiser Char Carter told the Ledbury Reporter: “We really need a group secretary and treasurer, or if anyone wants to come and just join the group in general as a fundraiser then I want to hear from them.

“If not I will have to close it as it’s too much work to do on my own.”

Ms Carter set up Herefordshire Pride two and a half years ago.

“Another problem is finding venues,” she added.

“We will get property owners or landlords that won’t let us use their venue because we are an LGBT group.

“Herefordshire isn’t always up with the times with these things.”

“It would be really sad for us to go as there are supposed to be around 5,000 members of the LGBT community living in the county and I don’t know of any other group out there for them.”
