Equus features no bestiality. Surely he know that since he was in the play?

I think he was being ironic. He’s talking about reactions to the two shows in comparison.

He was just feeling a little horse.

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how Hollywood films can depict the most gruesome and graphic violence and murder …. but show two men kissing and people are ‘disgusted’. We need to grow up ….

    1. One of the biggest issues for me is the systematic censorship; and psychology proves that if you never see something (and are additionally conditioned to find it repulsive) then your knee-jerk reaction is to recoil in disgust. My friends still go AHHHHH!! when they see 2 guys kissing on telly, it’s really quite annoying.

      1. Yep. Humans can certainly be trained (particularly by religion) to behave like Pavlov’s dog. That’s why I am convinced that the more homophobic someone is, the more likely it is they are struggling with inner conflict. They have been conditioned to regard homosexuality as ‘abhorrent’. Yet, they experience same-sex attraction. The result? Intense self-hatred which they project outwardly as hatred of others. And, if your friends are disgusted by the sight of two men kissing, if I were you, I’d be looking for more mature friends …..

You could call it an obsession… usually by the religious, who then try and continue about morals!

    Obsessed hypocrites!

  5. I understand that when Equus was first played in the 70’s they got vastly more complaints about the sex scene with the girlfriend that the sex scene with the horse.

This tells you a grat deal about the theatre going public!

    1. It tells you a great deal about ‘conditioning’ – particularly by religion. We have been bombarded by religious condemnation of being gay. No-one EVER told me not to sleep with a horse. So, the more a message of disgust and hatred is delivered, the more sensitized you become. Just goes to prove what a potent, insidious and dangerous force religion is, don’t you think …?

  6. You know, I’m 52 and when I was in high school, all the straight guys made a big issue about an 8mm porn flick they saw with a girl and a horse. I was left scratching my head. Today I can say this. I have never had any interest nor fascination with bestiality. All the gay friends I had, all the guys that I went to bed with, none of these ever even mentioned about bestiality in any way shape or form. Yet for some reason amongst straight guys bestiality is more acceptable than being gay. Many of the religious right erroneously believe that we all are not only into bestiality but necrophilia as well! Goes to show that this is a heterosexual fetish. The only fetish I have is mutual vanilla sex with a nice-looking masculine guy that has a nice full piece and a cute petite bum. Nothing more, nothing less.
