I’m not sure about Malta, but here in the United States the issue of procreation and parenting is irrelevant to the debate over marriage equality, since (1) couples do not need to marry to make babies, (2) the ability or even desire to make babies is not a prerequisite for obtaining a marriage license, and (3) there will always be countless Gay couples who are raising their adopted children to healthy, well-adjusted adulthood.

But in the U.S. it’s not irrelevant to marriage equality with hate groups such as NOM, FRC and others using the same crap the bigoted Catholic bishops in Malta are using and while I’m at it, the majority of the republican party are in agreement with.

    2. Same old claptrap from the church God forbid in their minds that kids would grow up respecting their gay parents and leave the church. still in some ways worshiping the inquisition.

Same old catholic church…nothing ever changes…..get religion off this planet…it is holding intelligent people from moving forward.

    1. QA losoing battle by the church of the endless molestation of chldren due to celibacy and on celibacy – the new pope will never change

the job is all but done re civil unions. The real reason the pishops oppose tt is obvious – most CUs ultimately lead to more respect for gay people by the big M word
On this issue send the pope a bag of sand and a hammer so he can pound it instead of his member

    2. the same bishops who hid the endless hidden molestation of children all over the world

The real problem is childhood “celibacy” – if you deny the reality of sex, forbid masturrbation etc, some people ultimately lose control and kids are the easiest target to rape and then make them feel it was their fault

New pope or the old RATZInger lets not let tthe world forget whats called the worst scandal since the holy inquisition of torture and burnings

    3. there was actually a study a few years ago by a US west coast university. BAsic result – if it hadnt been for the dead hand of the church on European society, we would have had the internet etc by about 1600

Presumably the same re medical science etc etc. Now we know what is behind the church supporting life – cover for their keeping probably a billion or more people living in the near stone age in the past

  3. Civil Unions are hardy a novelty when hundreds of millions of people around the world live in countries that provide recognition for them.

    1. teh only novelty would be the pope supporting it

  4. Amazing, isn’t it? Un-married priests lecturing the world on the benefits of child-rearing by a man and a woman. Their organisation is crumbling. They don’t like the loss of power and priviledge. Well, tough. We’ve seen through the pretence. It’s all about money, power and control….. and the use of superstition to achieve it.

A morally bangkrupt cult given it’s track record of paedophilia, ephebophilia, homophobia and misogyny for almost two millenia. Hardly in a position to make ‘moral’ pronouncements. The Abrahamic cults are the arch culprits primarily responsible for institutionalised homophobia that has infested societies, governments and judiciaries across the globe.

What right do Catholic bishops have, in light of all the child-abuse perpetrated on children by priests, to suddenly call for the defence of children witin the traditionanal family?
Smacks of intolerance and hypocasy of the highest order.

What right do Catholic bishops have , in light of all the child-sex -abuse perpetrated by Catholic Priests all over the world, to lecture the Maltese parliamentarians about the defence of the family? It reeks of hypocrasy of the highest order!!!

  7. Catholic priests and bishops should leave all children alone! It is a bit rich to lecture other on the education of children when you are practically working for a child sex ring.

  8. I wonder how many children these bishops have spoken to, in the orphanages, as to their choice of parents, or were they even given a choice? Perhaps they could enlighten us as to how many of those heterosexual couples there want to adopt some other woman’s cast off child.

So, to fly in the face of facts about unwanted children from straight unions, they would rather cling to their dogma and condemn these innocent children to a life in an institution where love and caring is a myth rather than with two people, be they man and woman, two men, or two women, who will give them the life they deserve; of being loved, cared for, and cherished. If anything, it is their outdated attitudes that are unnatural.

    1. Of course the church opposes adoption – God forbid the kids learn gays are good people.

This is a much less aggressive message than in the past, and although we take issue with #Maltese #Bishops for their usage of the term “novelty” (given that #gay # families have been around longer than any #religious entity), we do respect that the #Catholic #Church has the #right to differ in their #opinion… so long as it is clear that it is an opinion… this is as long as your tax money is not going towards supporting their anti-gay #causes, including #education.

We also note that the Bishops’ stance that childrearing should “preferably” be carried out by “their parents, a man and a woman” is in direct conflict with most of the Catholic Church’s own attempts to find #orphaned children, or those that have been separated from their birth parents, suitable homes …
