Boxer Tyson Fury is to be investigated for making homophobic and expletive-strewn comments on his Twitter account.

Earlier, the 25-year-old mocked retired boxing legend Lennox Lewis and current world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, calling them “homosexuals” and “100% homosexuals” – although neither boxer is known to be gay.

He peppered his tweets with a series of expletives – the homophobic ones have now been deleted.

On Thursday, the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed it had launched an investigation into Fury’s behaviour.

In March, Fury was fined £3,000 for making homophobic remarks on Twitter; he referred to another boxing pair as being “gay lovers” and said he would take the fine “on the chin”.

Elsewhere in the world of boxing, gay professional boxer Orlando Cruz says he will wear rainbow shorts in Saturday’s Las Vegas world title fight against Orlando Salido.

In addition to his rainbow shorts, Cruz will also be wearing pink gloves to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
