I’ll be startled if there are some, and if there are, I won’t be … startled :)

I think he meant … “some” people.might be startled. Unfortunately we’ll all have to wait until February 3rd 2014 is be .. startled!

A recent Q&A article with Tom Cullen (who’s straight) in a mainstream publication ahead of his new role in Downton Abbey: Q about his role in the Weekend – independent film about 2 gay men who meet and fall in love within a weekend – one of the first films about young gay men I’ve seen that’s remotely realistic & doesn’t focus on the same tired old plots – brilliant film. Q r.e. the ‘graphic’ sex scene which is one of the most realistic male gay sex scenes I’ve seen: in no way ‘titilating’ (apart from the fact that the guys are young & hot); all of 4 sec’s long; and you only see them from the waist up at a side angle. He quite rightly responded with something like “It’s not graphic. I think it’s very intimate, don’t you?”. That difference doesn’t seem to apply when straight audiences (or rather straight journalists) see a portrayal of two men having sex. No matter how carefully put the response always boils down “OMG! Two guys are doing it on screen!” – Rolling my eyes.

  3. To a community who experienced Queer as Folk sex scenes years ago, that is quite a bold statement.

This comment must be directed at straight American Haus Fraus.

  4. “He added: “It’s actually not graphic. You don’t actually see anything. What’s graphic is the emotion of the scene.”

Sadly when it comes to insecure straight men, pretty much everything can be considered “too graphic” when it comes to homosexuality. Even a peck on a cheek sends these big tough “real men” into a hysterical frenzy; they are such a bunch of fags ;)

The best gay sex scenes I’ve seen in a mainstream movie is “I love you Philip Morris” I reckon
