Police have released an image of a man they want to trace in connection with an incident of homophobic abuse on a train between Leeds and Huddersfield on 10 September.

British Transport Police are appealing for information. PC John Clethro said: “The victim, a 33-year-old man from Manchester, boarded the train at Leeds.

“He was then subjected to a barrage of homophobic verbal abuse by an Asian man who was accompanied by a female. The man and his companion left the service at Huddersfield.”

The police constable added: “No-one should have to be subjected to any form of verbal abuse or offensive comments whilst travelling on the rail network, which on its own is completely unacceptable and when it has a homophobic undertone it is even more deplorable.

“If you recognise the man pictured please come forward as we believe you have important information which could assist in this investigation.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image or has any further information about the incident is urged to call the British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or 61016 quoting log B5/NEA of 23/09/13, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
