I never could understand why he and Furnish didn’t marry in Canada back in 2005 when it became legal there. At least it would have made a statement here at home that CPs aren’t the same and perhaps ignited the equal marriage debate a lot sooner. Better late than never I suppose.

    1. Well, at the time Elton John had the opinion that marriage was for one man and one woman. His view was that same sex couples should have civil partnerships and campaigning for marriage would just “put people off”.

Fortunately people’s opinions can change over time.

In his defence, he was echoing the language of most British LGBT-friendly people at the time.

  2. Elton …please just go away and live quietly somewhere ..try Russia

  3. Won’t a CP get upgraded automatically? Or does he just want to splash out on another ceremony?

Yes it would be upgraded but not automatically. The cost will be £100 to issue a marriage certificate.

      1. That’s a bit cheeky, isn’t it? Still, I’m sure it’s all old Elton requires to justify a lavish wedding party this time round.

Yes, a bloody cheek but another government ploy to make money. Marriage is definitely a business first and foremost.

        2. Very cheeky!

“Hey folks, is it time to toss away that rusty out dated model of marriage-lite? Why not upgrade to marriage-plus today, for just £100!!!! New features include….”
