  1. That There Other David 19 Sep 2013, 11:14am

The hotel business will not miss them. Let’s hope the new owners will understand the law and realise that a hotel or B&B is not a private home.

    1. I agree David. I respect other peoples’ religious beliefs but it is wrong for them to run a commercial business and expect to force their beliefs on other people. The law protecting us is clear. They must have more money than sense to keep on appealing.

      1. I don’t think they are paying for the appeal, I think it is one of those crazy Christian Alliance types funding the bill

        1. Thanks. I didn’t know that. I’m sure Christian Aid would’ve done more good with that cash than some fatcat lawyer :(

      2. I respect other people and their right to think what they like, not their religious beliefs. How can you respect beliefs like that?

In fact we should just be indifferent to peoples religious beliefs, they are meaningless and should be kept to themselves.

I don’t expect anyone to respect anything I say unless they think it has some validity which is entirely up to them. Religious beliefs have no validity, so how could I possibly respect that?

How can I in all honesty respect the belief that the world is only 6000 years old. A belief like that deserves no respect. People laugh at people who think they have been abducted by aliens, I laugh at people who think the world is 6000 years old.

  2. Did the Bulls report these alleged incidents of serious harassment to the police?

If harassment did take place as they claim then the perpetrators should be ashamed of themselves. Harassment is never acceptable. And when we are winning in the courts, it’s also counter-productive.

    1. I wouldn’t be surprised if the harassment and threats were a false flag episode. What LGBT in their right mind would give them such a PR opportunity?

      1. I do hope you’re right, but there a lot of fairly unhinged people out there who appear not to give much thought to consequences.

        1. Yes, there are unhinged people who MIGHT have threatened them. But the allegation of threats is a familiar Christian ploy when people disagree with them. I remember that Anita Bryant also claimed that she had received death threats. When she was challenged to produce them, she refused. Nowadays, it is even more standard to pretend that Christians are victims of mean homosexuals. So count me skeptical.

          1. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I quite agree the Bulls’ claims are almost certainly, well, bull.

    2. These reprisals do us no good but I don’t feel sorry for these viscious pigs.

  3. While I don’t like their attitude to gay couples. The kind of threats they are receiving (if true) cannot be condoned.

On the other side, I am glad that they have sold their business. The hospitality industry does not need bigots like these and will be much better off without them.

  4. The threats and intimidation are wrong. These unpleasant people have lost their case (and more) and should now be left alone to stew.

Occasionally when turning over the compost one finds some ugly beetle larva or gelatinous fungus. We leave them alone too!

    1. Trust me – you cannot believe everything you read in the press. If these christian homophobic bigots are so intimidated – and the claims are true – why haven’t they gone to the police? Could it be because it is a totally invented story – as are so many in the British tabloids …?

  5. They need to report these incidences to the police as soon as they occur so the persons responsible can be found.
Making unsubstantiated claims to the press does n ot help anyone and may help lay the blame on the wrong people.

    1. False flag. They never took place. And aren’t THEY a charming, handsome couple (NOT!!) … one look at THEM and I’d TURN queer, if I wasn’t already … EVIL exudes from their every PORE!

      1. They look as miserable and depressing as the dingy rooms in their dump of a B&B, happy holiday makers would regret choosing to stay with this spiteful pair of tyrannical “religious” ghouls as their hosts.

But there can be no excuse for death threats if they actually occurred, likewise we can be excused for disbelieving the claims of death threats, vandalism and witchcraft made in the press if the Bulls did not inform the police first, I suspect they are making it all up to build sympathy for their next vexatious appeal in court next year, over-egging the pudding rather.

  6. The Daily fail is running this story. No comments as of yet.

It’s only a matter of time until we get the usual, “nasty gays persecuting poor ickle chwistians bile.

There victim hood knows no end, and I would question the validity of their claims as they blatantly lie in the Daily Fail by stating, “Such rules are so strictly adhered to that Mrs Bull has admitted that even her own brother, when he comes to stay, is required to stay in a separate room to his female partner.’

This we know to be false as other clearly unmarried couples have reported staying in a single room with no problems.

    1. And so far the winning comment is:

“I hope those to men are pleased with the misery they have caused this elderly couple. It’s a disgrace and wrong on all counts.”

I bet if you said in the Daily Fail that Muslims had the right to discriminate in the provision of goods and services these commenting bigots would have just the opposite reaction.

      Hypocrites all.

      1. I have not one jot of sympathy for these vile bigots. Christian? My arse! Whinging hypocrites? Definately. At least be consistent and don’t allow ANY un-married couples to stay. But I understand several clearly un-married heterosexual couples have confirmed that they HAVE stayed there in a double room. The only aspect of this for which I feel any sorrow is that a gay ‘married’ couple will not now have the chance to test the Bull’s religious objections as the bill won’t be in effect for some time yet/ What a pity.

  7. Accept (though don’t RESPECT) their right to an opinion however misguided. Still they have 3/4 of a million quid now they’ve sold up.
Get on with it and be grateful !

  8. Cold and hungry? I’m sure The Lord will provide !!

    1. One look at her and i don’t believe she has ever missed a meal in her life. there’s no proof to any of their story and nothing at all about police reports.

Isn’t it a sin to lie and make stuff up?

    2. My thoughts exactly. Surely their conviction in the veracity of the Bible means they will be protected by their God when times get tough?

On another note I find both their images quite disturbing, they weren’t anywhere in the queue for looks. Please don’t run their pictures against any future articles.

  9. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Responding to ‘Jim Crow’ style prejudice with below the belt intimidation tactics harms our cause, especially since the law has already fined them and the Bulls are loosing business.
Assuming these reports are accurate, dead rabbits nailed to fenceposts and unbolting their car wheels crosses the line.

I have no special sympathy for the Bulls but this is one instance where voting with your feet would be taking the highground.

    1. Completely agree. They discriminated contrary to the law, they paid the price through the courts, now time to let it rest.

I do remember reading in an article a couple of years back however, that the Bulls’ business had already been going downhill (at the time, the recession was decimating businesses around the country) BEFORE the incident and court case. Pure speculation, but it is possible that the closure would have happened anyway.

    2. Helge Vladimir Tiller 19 Sep 2013, 1:37pm

      Me too- agree !

      1. Agree, but it is nice to think that their bigotry being exposed in the media might have put people off, and killed their trade!

  10. Anyone tried taking on a Muslim establishment yet? Doesn’t look like it.
    Any particular reason why?

    1. Maybe no-one’s been turned away from a Muslim-owned B&B because of their sexuality yet.

  11. Nice quality bit of journalism by the Daily Mail in following up claims to ensure that complaints have been lodged with police. I have no hesitation in saying that all threats etc should be met with punitive legal action.

But without corroboration, which I would assume would be how a normal (ie not propaganda merchant) journalist would behave, I feel that the Mail’s own conduct makes the story suspect.

  12. Get the Christian Legal Centre to help, they’ve caused all their problems.

  13. keith francis farrell 19 Sep 2013, 12:20pm

What I don’t understand, firstly I doubt any gay person would do anything of what they claim, and there are very few of us who even know how to remove a wheel, I do, but my health will not allow it, plus most of us don’t like dealing with dead animals. Silly people did not know good business, now they cry because they had to sell the business. I hope that they also lost their life savings, then they can live like real people instead of being pretend Christians they can do the right thing.

    1. Wow… just wow.

So gay people are somehow biologically wired to be nicer? Worse at mechanics? Squeamish?

      Homophobic nonsense.

      1. But we are probably ok at flower arrangement? Grrrrr

    2. Stereotypes much. Stop looking in the mirror, we aren’t all Nancys.

    3. A taste for cock does not necessarily equate to a dislike of dead animals or ineptitude with mechanical matters. That’s what generations of non-gay people have tried to promote as a concept, and it doesn’t help to perpetuate it.

    4. I very much doubt that the two in question are ‘pretend Christians’. They take their doctrine seriously – that’s the problem.
Most people in the UK don’t take their religion (if they even have one) that seriously, thus a fairly liberal society.

  14. Death threats and hacking are not cool, but they still have a policy that says “heterosexual only” !

if you have a business with signs saying “no gays” or “no blacks” or “no irish” then what do you expect really

  15. Derek Williams 19 Sep 2013, 12:27pm

I find these actions against this couple, if they really occurred, appalling. The rule of law should prevail, and it has done. If we BREAK the very law we called upon to litigate against them, then it compromises us deeply. While the owners are clearly delusional and misguided, they are not evil. Criminal acts of vengeance against their estate will NEVER win them over. On the contrary, it drives a wedge through any prospects of negotiation, compromise or consensus.

    1. Whilst not condoning any “alleged” actions against this couple, bear in mind that they were more than willing to break the law themselves with their discriminatory actions even to the point of attempting to get the law changed to suit their own personal bigotries.

  16. It seems the Daily Mail has taken what the couple say on trust without any indication of having checked the claims. Why no reference to police records and why no proof of the porn on the website? There is no evidence to believe them. The Daily Mail story is an example of very poor journalism.

    1. Also, they probably were in financial straights long before Hall and Preddy came also.

  17. Karma’s a b^tch, as they say.
No, I don’t condone the cyber bullying or the death threats, though I do question their existence. If it’s true, stooping to such level is only making their point for them. We have to rise above their hate and expose it then, challenge it – the right way, legally and by good example.

  18. Two wrongs don’t make a right. But if people are going to be vile to LGBT citizens, citing their pathetic, childish and highly-selective ‘beliefs’ …. well, what can they expect?

  19. Vile examples of humanity – Christian my fat ass – these are bigoted – backward, morons and now Liars -

  20. There is no excuse for this kind of harassment and threatening behavior, and I hope those involved are found and punished for it.

One of the interesting things to note is the collapse of these businesses. The bakery in the US is another example. These religious people seem to not understand that society has moved on and their bigotry is no longer acceptable.

In an already struggling business, it makes absolutely no sense to limit your customers further. That is a basic failing in business management. People like this don’t deserve to operate businesses, because they don’t seem to have the first clue about not mixing your own personal beliefs into the business, unless it can secure you ongoing success (for example, a religious writer producing material for religious groups.)

Religion, and business marketed to the masses, do not mix. This is basic stuff all these people don’t seem to get.

Incidentally, who else hopes a gay couple buys that property? lol

    1. Their “beliefs” would not let them sell to a gay couple! Is that legal, I’m not sure….

      1. Don’t tell them you’re gay when you’re buying it.
        Tell them afterward :)

It’s probably not legal to refuse to sell to someone because of their sexual orientation, but (like with homophobic employers) they’ll pick something else about you to be the official reason for refusal and never admit that your sexuality had anything to do with it.

Tell them when the ink has dried and they can’t go back on it.

    2. I just wonder how Souter, of bus company “Stagecoach” survives- his hate campaign has lasted a long time and cost shareholders and himself £millions.

  21. I’m starting to wonder about the number of people claiming death threats when they’re called out for being bigots, too. But then I think of all the really vicious remarks I’ve seen on various newspaper websites, including the Pink News, some of which directly threaten mutilation or death. How the hell did this become normalised?

I do agree that people going to the press claiming death threats should have to substantiate their claims before publication, however.

  22. Daily Mail have done a nice, look at how these poor innocent people have been hurt by gay people.

They are vile people and that is why their business failed.

Stange how they have no proof of any of these so called attacks or death theats. Lies, more lies from the bitter twisted pair.

    1. I believe The Daily Fail is rapidly printing itself out of business. If it’s editorial policy is to remain positively homophobic because that appeals to the more rabid christian bigots among its readership, surely these old farts are rapidly dying off … and with them the Fail’s circulation. Good riddanmce, I say ….

      1. I would like the Daily Mail to die a death for another reason too and
that is their incessant, increasingly demented and vitriolic campaign against the unemployed who they treat like vermin and lepers and are adept at stirring-up hatred against.

    2. johnny33308 19 Sep 2013, 7:58pm

Every time one of these professional ‘religious victims’ claims harassment or that some violence was done to them, they are oddly never able to provide any sort of proof to back up their claims. It’s all just more lies to promote their ‘victimhood’…..they’re still just ordinary nasty bigots, nonetheless….

  23. Call me cynical, but I find these stories about dead rabbits, nuts removed from wheelbolts etc rather unconvincing, especially without any police reports or some corroborating evidence.

It’s also quite possible that they could be ‘false flag’ operations intended to discredit us. The allegations just seem too convenient, don’t they?

Even the Daily Wail concedes that it’s a grotty hotel with some terrible reviews, but the owners prefer to claim that they’re being persecuted rather than admitting it’s failed because it’s seen as a grubby, unwelcoming dump.

  24. on their website they state:

The hotel has built an excellent reputation over the last 25 years with locals and visitors, many who have stayed so often they’ve become part of the family. We are always happy to see new people and look forward to making you feel welcome.

Well this is false because they don’t welcome same sex couples nor are they going to make a same sex couple welcome

Just wondered can you complain to the local trading standards because they are mis representing their hotel and service

  25. Mumbo Jumbo 19 Sep 2013, 2:04pm

    “….shivering and….hungry….”

Couldn’t Yahweh (the particular god you have chosen to worship in your particular way) provide such dedicated followers with a burning bush, a fish and some loaves?

    1. Beelzeebub 19 Sep 2013, 2:39pm

I’m sure they would have seen some of the money gained from the 3/4 million quid sale of the place.

      “Shivering and Hungry”

      Still playing the bl@@dy victim.

They are the arbiters of their own doom.

  26. ItchycooMark 19 Sep 2013, 3:03pm

I’m not sure how you can put a bolt into a car tyre, you need sharp things to do that.

    I smell a rat

  27. now they know what it’s like to be a social outcast!
    http://getoffmydress.blogspot.com/2013/09/sometimes-ya-feel-like-nutcase.html

  28. God there ugly…put me off my bed and breakfast….

    1. Now that people have seen them, why would happy holidaymakers want to stay with this pair of tyrannical “religious” miseries glaring at them with their depressing hang dog faces.

They blame everyone but themselves for the failure of their business, while their public relations skills are absolutely atrocious. They are the face of their business and it’s not a good look..

  29. Beelzeebub 19 Sep 2013, 3:19pm

It must be borne in mind that whilst these two are achieving their requisite victim status, there discriminatory actions at the root cause of all this and there perceived victim hood is being splashed all over the dailies like a rash further feeding the drooling homophobes.

It was a gay couple that were the victims in this affair by being denied rights they were fully entitled to.

These two “christians” have twisted it into claiming that it is they who are the victims.

    No.

They were the root CAUSE of this whole affair and I hold ZERO sympathy for them.

This selfish couples cr@pulence is affecting millions of gay people as they paint themselves victim and us the bullies.

And sadly that it it how it is being reported and perceived.

  30. “The L-shaped room” is being replayed on the “listen again” BBC at the moment; it’s evocative of the same values- which thankfully went out 40 to 50 years ago: a father throws his daughter out of the house for getting pregnant whilst unmarried; she’s forced to live in a dirty overpriced bedsit and the “landlady”, who advertises “no blacks, no Irish” forces her views and “values” on the poor sods living there.

  31. The poor rabbit. It sounds like it suffered enough after (reportedly) being nailed to a fence, but THEIR fence?! That’s even worse for the poor rabbit!

Nothing human or animal should be forced near the bulls, even in death! They are scum

  32. Colin (london) 19 Sep 2013, 3:49pm

    The courts have spoken.

Surely enough. Please leave them alone now. They like all of us need to move on and get a better perspective

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 19 Sep 2013, 4:54pm

It’s not us not leaving them alone, its the Daily Heil and others fanning the flames of bigotry and homophobia without corroborating any of the evidence and importantly, no police report of it.

    2. no, lets a laugh a little first-silly wrinkled old bigots…

  33. Robert in S. Kensington 19 Sep 2013, 3:54pm

Has any of the evidence been photographed by the Daily Heil reporters I wonder? I find this suspicious since this couple didn’t report the alleged incidents to the police, the first thing any normal person would do.

That their establishment didn’t receive great reviews makes my suspicions all the more stronger about these two. For all we know, if such damage had been done to their property and porn infiltrated their website, perhaps it was done by homophobes or perhaps it was the Bull’s themselves. Perhaps C4M, Christian Concern put them up to it and I wouldn’t put it past either. Online porn is a very popular hobby among a lot of male right wing religious nutters apparently. It’s quite possible Mr. Bull was trolling for it while his wife was sleeping seeking eternal rapture?

    1. I don’t understand how alleged ‘death threats’ have forced them out of business. What no-one mentions is that their business has gone bust since they were exposed as vile hypocritical bigots. This clearly shows that they have had no support whatsoever from ANYONE! Surely, if they had been supported by other ‘loving christians’, their business would have gone up – not down. So, why can’t they (AND the Dail Fail) simply accept they are out of step with mainstream opinion and just vanish down the toilet of bigotry once and for all?

  34. E. Carpenter 19 Sep 2013, 4:26pm

Thwarted Christians often resort to lies or violence to try to bolster their positions – we’ve seen that countless times.

Like others here, I’d like to see some evidence that these accusations are real before giving these two any sympathy.

The kinds of things they claim were done to them sound like thousands of proven instances of anti-gay harassment, but that kind of harassment is really rare going the other way.

    1. ‘Evidence’? From The Daily Fail? Haha. Since when have the tabloid press in this country ever allowed the truth to get in the way of a story? These vile bigots probably had one or two e-mails telling them they are disgusting specimens of humanity and as far from the ethos of genuine christianity as it’s possoible to get. Then, The Fail exagerates beyond reason. Take my advice, Bulls. Renounce your hateful discrimination. In time, Jesus may forgive you for corrupting the very central nature of his message – ‘LOVE ONE ANOTHER’.

  35. “were actually shivering and were hungry”. What a shame, I thought god would have protected them, seems not :)

  36. Its enough to put you off your bacon and eggs…..

  37. SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS.
It is just UKIP/daily mail style propaganda

  38. god has judged them and taken their business because he does not approve of hatred-very funny!!

  39. johnny33308 19 Sep 2013, 7:52pm

Poor little diddums! Always the martyr!

  40. They are playing the victim card after a three quarters of a million pound sale of their tiny b&b hotel? Boohoo. They should be thanking the Lord for giving them this god-send bail out of their squalid business.
And I dont believe their bs persecution stories for a minute…. don’t be naive and fall for that nonsense, its nothing but lies.

  42. The rainbow fascist brigade have been up to their tricks again .Brings to mind the racist hate mail Bishop Sentamu of York received from the homo-lobby when he stated the obvious that marriage means one man and one woman (a nasty twitter mob group of homosexual activists turned up to protest !)

Seems ‘equality’ activists don’t like people who disagree with them – how unequal and un-diverse !

    1. Ah, bless. Making judgments, and hurling around terms like fascist, without any evidence to back it up? How deliciously characteristic of you, Ray. Thanks for the laughs.

    2. Beelzeebub 20 Sep 2013, 2:49pm

This is not about “disagreement” it is about rights and said rights being trodden on.

  43. David Skinner 29 Sep 2013, 11:57pm

During the Nuremberg trials an attorney tried to come up with a definition of evil. He finally decided it was an inability to empathise with the suffering of others. The gaystapo exhibit all those same characterists here in this comments page. But hey. God is not mocked. This couple will be vindicated and their tormenters will be brought be shamed.
