A radio host was surprised when a caller phoned his station to sound off about Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s equal marriage themed song, Same Love.

The host of Artimis Radio in Indiana, was forced to ask the caller, who said his name was Craig, not to phone again, after he accused the station of promoting “homosexuals and gay tendencies”.

The caller said his own son had asked him to listen to the song, of which the lyrics, and the accompanying video, carry a strong message of support for equal marriage.

After the rant by Craig, who said he was a “God-fearing man”, and that “Jesus hates gays”, the host eventually lost his temper.

The host began by telling him that American is the land of the free, but the caller said it needed to be free of gay people, and repeatedly said he would no longer listen to the station.

The host responded: “Please, please, please promise me that you’ll never listen to this station again, and that you’ll never call in again because, honestly, I could probably talk to the GM and owner here and they probably don’t want you to listen to the station ever again.”
The song Same Love, from the pair’s latest album, addresses Macklemore’s personal experiences and feelings around the issue of same-sex relationships and equal marriage, and features a video spanning the lives of a gay couple, including a happy marriage.

The song was inspired by Referendum 74, at which voters in the US state of Washington voted to uphold a law legalising equal marriage.
