Police appeal for information after homophobic graffiti found on Manchester residence

Manchester police are appealing for information after a house in Golborne was found covered in homophobic graffiti.

The offenders painted the front door windows and wrote graffiti of the living room windows of a house in Rivington Avenue on September 2, at some time between 3am and 8:30am.

Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Police Constable Lawrence McDonald said: “The victim is obviously upset to have woken up and found her home has been damaged. Some of the graffiti was homophobic and we are treating this as a hate crime.”

He added: “This is not the first time the owner has been subjected to this type of crime as she was a victim in June this year.

“I would ask anyone who has information which can help us find who is responsible to contact police.”

In April it was revealed that Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were the first force in the country to recognise alternative subculture – such as “goths, emos, punks and metallers” as a recordable motivation for hate crime, in the same vein as homophobia.
