  1. More magical hogwash by the mendacious and disingenuous. Their fictional messiah never mentioned homosexuality in any way – but was very big on not being a judgemental tosspot, and not treating others badly.

These fools don’t even know WHAT they think. They are nothing but those little wind-up monkeys that clash cymbals together; one note, with no deviation from the script, controlled by someone else who turns the key and steps back to let them make noise. Idiots.

And what is more, since marriage is not denied to people of any other faith, or to those who have outgrown security blankets, the argument is a steaming pile anyway. But then logic and intellectual honesty was never the forte of the religious…

“These fools don’t even know WHAT they think.”

Valksy, are you sure the DO think? :-)

  2. That There Other David 30 Aug 2013, 1:26pm

Yay!! They’re using all the same arguments that have failed again and again and again wherever equal marriage has come up!! That means Australia will get equal marriage!!

Hooray for utterly rubbish, illogical and downright delusional opposition!! They are, and will always be, our greatest allies.

  3. Why do these vile – apparently self loathing closet cases always spew this bile and claim to know what their so called Messiah would think of same sex marriage – They Don’t – this is simply an excuse for hatred of those living a truthful, proud, honest and evolved life – These vie examples of humanity are hiding behind outdated superstitions.

    1. They are so completely brainwashed by their religion that they are simply unable to think rationally. If they could, they might just stop and think, “I’m being a completely childish twat. If god (should he / she actually exist) really had any strong opinions on gay marriage, wouldn’t he / she come down and tell us what they are? As it is, it’s left to tossers like me to do some ‘speculation’, driven by my own bigotry (and possibly denial of same-sex attraction) about what god might want. I think I’d better shut-up now before someone belts me in the mouth for being a pathetic, friendless loner in need of an imaginary friend”.
      Or something like that …..

Odd that Australian Labor and Liberal parties in no way resemble our own. They ought to be ashamed of themselves and seem to have more in common with our own Tory opponents.

I’m fearful of an Abbott government gaining power in Australia. It’s going to be an uphill battle to get equal marriage introduced, no question about it. If the Australian people are in a majority of support for it, why is Abbott expected to become the next PM? Makes no sense.

    1. Steve North London 30 Aug 2013, 4:03pm

the Liberal Party in Australia is the equivalent of the British Conservative Party.

      1. Robert in S. Kensington 30 Aug 2013, 4:24pm

Odd though that they label themselves as Liberal, a misnomer and not even Libertarian.

        1. In Australia people talk of ‘small l liberal’ to distinguish true liberals from the Liberal Party.

    2. “I’m fearful of an Abbott government gaining power in Australia.”

So am I, I live here. Someone needs to destroy their Tardis that seems capable of only going back to the 1950’s……

PS Tony Abbott was born in London and his family came to Australia as Ten Pounds Poms, you can have him back if you like – we’ll even pay his fare back. Actually, I wouldn’t wish that on you Brits so what if we sent him to the USA, he might even disappear amongst all their religious nutters.

  5. Metsän poika 30 Aug 2013, 1:34pm

Aaaargh, I don’t know where to start.

I know, how about this for a start – if you don’t want gay marriage, don’t get gay married! I don’t know, some of these straights are so stupid, they don’t even get simple concepts.

  6. Happy camper 30 Aug 2013, 1:37pm

He looks so gay, don’t you think?

  7. A classic case of “YOU can’t get married, it’s against MY religion!”

Has the word ‘marriage’ been patented by Christianity. No. Can only religious people get married currently? No. Is this man too stupid to understand that civil marriage has nothing to do with religion? Absolutely. I wish this senator and others like him would just pi$$ off.

  8. You know what *I* think isn’t “normal”? People with names like “Damian”. And I think you would agree that Australians like normal things, not things that aren’t normal. Therefore, “Damian” if that really IS your name, you are not normal and most Australians disagree with you.

MY GOD! Is it really that easy to sound like a fundamentalist lunatic? WOW! that was actually fun!
HEY! I just put the “fun” back into fundamental!
Now, if we could only take the “mental” out of fundamental.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 30 Aug 2013, 1:58pm

      Cute! Fund-a-mental…..

    2. “heterosexuality isn’t normal, it’s just common”
      Dorothy Parker

      1. Classic…. succinct and accurate.

  9. Beelzeebub 30 Aug 2013, 2:00pm

To most christians, the bible is like a Software License.

    Nobody actually reads it.

They just scroll to the bottom and click “I agree.”

    1. Not quite, they usually have those fluoro tabs all over Liviticus.

    2. as you say “most” and that also is doubtful!

  10. Derek Williams 30 Aug 2013, 2:00pm

This is how their twisted ‘logic’ goes:

“Normal” = “found in the majority”
    “Normal” = “Good”
    “Not normal” = “Bad”

    So according to them:
    “Homosexual” = “Not normal”
    “Homosexual” = “Bad”

But what about other things that are not found in the majority and are therefore ‘abnormal’, like Left Handedness, and Genius?

A left handed homosexual genius like Leonardo da Vinci, or Alan Turing (inventor of the computer) would therefore be “Bad”+”Bad”+”Bad”.

They haven’t really thought this through.

    1. Yes, if you read the Sun rather than the Economist that must make you more “normal”.

    2. That There Other David 30 Aug 2013, 4:18pm

Oh but they have, especially on the genius front. Intelligence allows people to see every gaping hole in their ridiculous diatribes. It lessens the power over the masses they pretend they deserve.

Any difference from a herd mentality is to be shunned by such people. They fear difference above everything else. Its mere existence shows them up for the charlatans they are. It allows them and their weak dogmatic ideas to be ridiculed.

  11. Well then, call ‘god’ to the stand and let’s hear what HE has to say for himself. I am sick to death of these people telling us what they THINK god wants. If this were not about ‘religion’ and these people were claiming to hear voices, they’d be locked-up. But because it’s ‘religion’ and we cannot say ANYTHING which might offend someone’s ‘belief’, we have to endure this childish nonsense. We MUST fight back against this lunacy. ‘Believe’ what the f**k you want – in the privacy of your own home. But PLEASE …. leave your irrationality there and let the world get on with making sure the rest of us have equality and can enjoy our human rights without your constant bleating about ‘what god wants’. GROW UP!!!!.

  12. Yes, marriage equality definitely goes against Christ’s message – I’m sure we all remember that part of the bible where he says:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Oh, and don’t go getting gay-married, that’s like, really really gross.”

  13. Fortunately “Christ’s message” doesn’t matter.
And “Christ’s message” isn’t as important and real peoples human rights.
What if Christ’s message had been sexist?

  14. “It goes against Christ’s message”
Then, if that’s the case, let Christ come and defend it.
I’m sick and tired of people using their made up gods as excuses of abusing real peoples’ rights.

  15. Sandgroper 30 Aug 2013, 3:39pm

Is it just me, but doesn’t he look gay?

    1. He looks like a drip. Fortunately no gay men I know look like that.

      1. Sandgroper 31 Aug 2013, 1:29am

I’ll pay that one. We could add ‘drop (kick)’, camp, dweeb, god botherer…

  16. Christopher Coleman 30 Aug 2013, 3:55pm

If Australians want to look honestly at what goes against Christ’s message, they might begin with the theft of the country from the aboriginees and the way they continue to treat those people. The same holds true of the Americas, of course. “Western” nations need to tread very carefully when talking Christian. They might also like to look at their levels of poverty and social inequality that run counter to the philosophy and practice of Christ’s first followers.

    1. Actually, it was the British who “stole” Australia. It was also the British who carried out wholesale slaughter against the original owners of this land. If you’re going to apportion blame, do it properly. The British are evil little bastards who have caused nothing but problems around the world while chasing after the glory of “The Empire”. Stop blaming innocent Australians for things the British did.
I really despise ignorant Brits who prefer to rewrite history and blame everyone else.

  17. Have any of these morons ever read the NEW testament, aka “the gospel”?

Christ’s message? You know social justice, greed is bad, feed the poor, take care of th sick…and NOT ONE WORD ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY.

  18. The australian constitution states separation of religion & the state, yet this is continually ignored by politicians of all parties, they even say christian prayers before each session of parliament.
It is brainwashing by christians to keep their stranglehold on all aspects of society

  19. Australian politics!! The Liberal Party is anything but liberal. That party’s leader is very much against same-sex marriage but has a sister who’s a lesbian and is vey much in favour of it. The Labor Party leader (and PM) is personally in favour of same-sex marriage but has a sister who is totally against it and wants Russian-type laws introduced. What a jumble!

    1. Sandgroper 31 Aug 2013, 1:46am

Just a thought, perhaps Tony Abbott’s and Kevin Rudd’s sisters were switched at birth! The delicious irony of it for these two – just goes to show, you can choose your friends but not your relatives (my own Dad was a violent tempered homophobe – and now that he is dead he can’t change it).

  20. Mike Homfray 30 Aug 2013, 6:07pm

What is it about Australia? Why do they seem so behind the times? The British Labour party just doesn’t have goons like this any more

    1. Sandgroper 31 Aug 2013, 1:38am

      What is it about Australia?

Well, we just have VERY VERY VERY bad, gutless, spineless, myopic politicians. They are so afraid of bad press, and is it any wonder – 70% of the print media is owned by our ‘toxic waste’ export, the American citizen Rupert Murdoch.

The rest of us are was ahead of our politicians. The polls show that most Australians are in favour of marriage equality.

PS Our Labour party is spelled Labor, another Americanism we would like to disown.

  21. john lyttle 30 Aug 2013, 6:28pm

So Christ recently issued a statement regarding equal marriage and I missed it? Damn.

  22. Janet Lameck 30 Aug 2013, 10:18pm

Your argument is only good if you firmly
believe all the garbage that is in the bible. Or are a practicing ‘christian’!

I believe in God and jesus, BUT I certainly DON’T believe the crap you are dishing out!

  23. Why has a 2012 speech suddenly been dug out? To embarrass Kevin Rudd and the Australian Labour Party, by showing that the ALP is not 100% united? I suspect so. But why did Pink News not spot it was being used?

  24. And yet, peculiarly, despite living in the Roman friggin’ Empire(!), Christ actually did NOT say ANYTHING about homosexuality! Thus raising the question of whether He even found the topic to be one meriting interest.

  25. People like Mr. Power give me hope for the future as he is prepared to suffer for speaking / doing what is true / right.

    1. Backward thinking people like yourself and Mr Power have no future, you hanker to live in an ever receding past and hence you will all disappear along with it.

  26. “although the Golden Rule “can be found in some form in almost every ethical tradition”, the rule is “sometimes claimed by Christianity as its own”.[51] The “Golden Rule” has been attributed to Jesus of Nazareth: “Therefore all things whatsoever would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” (Matthew 7:12, see also Luke 6:31). The common English phrasing is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you””

  27. ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

In Jesus’ teachings, our relationship with our fellow men, women and children is inseparable from our relationship with God. Love of God and love of our neighbours are two aspects of the same calling:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (NIV, John 13:34-35

I hear only hate coming out of Damian Powers mouth.
