  1. I’m still waiting for more dirt to surface on O’Brien.

Do we need more? Sexual offences, covering up sexual abuse. To be honest there can’t be a lot more that he could have done that would make him look worse than he already does as a human being. Well maybe being a serial killer or something might take him a bit lower.

      1. Of course he didnt go after sex predators – he’s the predator in charge

Here are a long list of other predetations by the monster of Rome

      2. How many atrocities do these men have to commit before someone puts a stop to it? Sexual repression = u gon get fukked up. Ask any psychologist on the planet. Priests and nuns simply cannot be trusted. If the Catholic church was any other nstitution on earth it would have been dismantled immediatley but no $$$

    2. this is not news re nuns abusing kids. I’ve focused my posts with links to mostly male abuse becuse its more commonly thought of as being real.

  2. The fickle finger of fate has yet to point in that direction.

  3. Did he know that he would be found out? More than likely.

Best they begin the investigation again. On second thoughts, let the police investigate! If the church does it, we all know that they will try to cover up as much as they can.

Conti is far worse than O’Brien ever was. And how convenient for him to accuse O’Brien now that the Vatican have gagged him.

    1. Exactly what I thought! Conti himself is allegedly no stranger to covering up abuse when he was a lowly priest. One victim is supposed to have went to Conti and was dismissed as an “unreliable witness.” And remember Conti spoke out in support of the Nazareth House nuns, suggesting their alleged victims were making it up and only doing it for the money, he even supported one nun who was found guilty, trivialising the abuse.

      1. And Conti also refused to vacate the official residence of the Archbishop of Glasgow upon his retirement, so they catholic church splashed out on rennovating and refurbishing another house for the new Archbishop, Philip Tartaglia. One report I read said it cost £500,000 – all because of Conti’s selfish desire to live in luxury. So to hear him trying to take the moral high ground is rather galling.

    2. Is he? Yikes. There’s a ironic sort of amusement in watching them turn on each other, I suppose.

    3. Although I find child abuse abhorrent, I do find it extremely funny that O’Brien is now being used as a scapegoat by the RCC. The man deserves everything that is coming to him.

I find it odd that nobody know the whereabouts of O’Brien. Is he still in the UK I wonder or holed up in the Vatican somewhere? It’s astonishing that the media have been so silent, especially the BBC.

I heard that Francis 1st had secluded him in a monastery in Rome.

The Catholic Church tried to cover up child rape? Say it isn’t so…..

  7. Is this Vile old man still breathing?

  8. Well of course he bloody did. It’s standard procedure in the Catholic Church. They have the order from the very top that if this information is exposed it must be kept within the Church walls at all costs.

Considering he was part of the abuse, there’s no question he would do everything in his power to strop the truth from crawling out of that confession booth in all it’s grotesque glory

  9. Well :- no surprise there . I’ll expect the usual anodyne anaemic lo-cost response from the RC cult in Scotland I.e “prayers” “support” & “counselling” . As an ex R C Scot I want their organisation shut down ;their priests, bishops and cardinals sent to The Vatican on the next plane out. Their properties and monies distributed to the abused

  10. This man’s obvious psychological problems are a direct consequence of religious ‘conditioning’. ALL his natural instincts have been atrificially suppressed. “Be celibate” – “Don’t be gay” … is it any wonder so many catholic priests turn to drink? The whole outfit is sick. It exists soley for its own selfish, controlling ends and has always played on the superstitions and fears of those on whom it can impose its will.

    1. casparthegood 24 Aug 2013, 3:36pm

None of them are forced to become priests they can leave when they like as far as I am aware. I have no sympathy for any of them

  11. I think that the O’Brien scandal has given the catholic church in Scotland an ideal scapegoat. Instead of really looking at their faults, and trying to change, they can just say he was the cause of it all and carry on as normal, absolving themselves of all blame.

But it’s particularly hypocritical coming from Conti, given his past attitude to victims of abuse by catholic priests and nuns.

  12. Evil has a new name – Cardinal Keith O’Brien

  13. I think the Catholic Church in Scotland: and if not: particular members like O’Brian.

Should face an investigation by the police. if it is true they blocked an investigation surly this would make them accessory’s (after the fact) to the crimes.

Possibly perverting the course of Justice?

  14. There’s a new name for evil – Cardinal Keith O’Brien

  15. This story has made me so angry.

Whether O’Brien did block an investigation last year (or thereabouts) I have no idea, but I don’t trust Conti one bit. Even if what Conti says about O’Brien is true, it doesn’t explain why the church didn’t attempt to do anything about abuse allegations before last year.

As for Conti’s claim that he’d have taken action when he was Bishop of Aberdeen, I just don’t believe it. He publicly rubbished alleged victims when he was Bishop of Aberdeen, so he’s just trying to put all the blame onto O’Brien and off the current leaders of the church.

Conti is a hypocrite and a liar and more of a threat as part of the church hierarchy than O’Brien can ever be now he’s been cast aside.

    1. This link shows that despite what he says at present, Conti was quite happy to cover up child abuse in the past, according to accounts given by an alleged victim. O’Brien was a nasty bigot who deserved his humiliating fall from grace, but I fear the church will suceed in their attempts to put the blame for everything onto him and they’ll carry on as normal.

  16. Guglielmo Marinaro 23 Aug 2013, 7:07pm

Let us not forget that Mario Conti called for the retention of the ridiculous Section 28, and opposed the introduction of civil partnerships on the ground that “the homosexual relationship is subversive”.

  17. Disappointed to see Pinknews report this shameless “blame the homo” propaganda as fact. If O’Brien knew about abuse cover ups (and he probably did) then so did Conti and the rest of the theocratic mafia. Since they’ve never done it before with any other retired clergy accused of this crap you have to wonder of they’d have been as quick to chuck O’Brien under the bus if it wasn’t for him being outed.

  18. They make me sick. IT never occurs to any of them to CALL THE POLICE when they know of definite cases of child abuse. None of them ever did. I hope the thought of all the suffering they allowed stays with them for ever.

    1. It would be nice but somehow I think the only things that really concern them are their careers, power and privileges.

    2. They have direct orders from the top that it must be kept within Church walls and that has been the rule since the 70’s when the news first broke

  19. MarKo Hubert 24 Aug 2013, 1:19am

HEUUUUUU! was he refering to himself? That’s not Christian to do so much projection…. well lets say that it seems now to be the conservatives bigots’ trent now.

  20. Keith in SALFORD 25 Aug 2013, 7:37pm

    What a rissole…a self-serving, position clinging schmuck.
