Why did the Daily Star ‘out’ actor Charlie Condou as a gay parent given that it wasn’t a secret?

  1. Well, let’s be honest about this. The Daily Star is read by a load of uneducated plebs anyway, so it doesn’t matter too much.

    1. I think it’s written by uneducated plebs too… XD

  2. The Star and the son are not real newspapers and not even fit to wipe your arse with.

They are sensationalist scandal rags they make up stories if there is no real news. I seem to recall the reading age required to read the Sun, is about 6 years old. That should tell us all we need to know about it.

An American friend once said to me he was amazed they are sold as newspapers. Simler publications in the US are usually at supermarket checkouts and are not taken seriously as news but simply scandal and made up fantasy.

    1. What about Fox News? I’m amazed that your American friend was unware of such a homophobic and reactionary piece of shít

To me it seems that Americans are just as wilfully ignorant as British people are. Perhaps more so…..

      1. Yes but think about how different printed news is there. Their most trashy divisive stupid stuff is video and ours is written. the friend was probably only taking about written.

        1. Americans have been reading the National Enquirer for decades and lapping up all the salacious headlines it prints – much the same as the Sunday Sport used to print in the UK, so either side of the Pond we have a long history of dubious journalism. It must’ve been a slow news day when the Editor signed the Condou story off as front-page news!

        2. Probably but I was shítfaced when I wrote that comment last night.

  3. I know it’s only the Daily Star and its integrity is pretty non-existent but how can anyone calling themselves a journalist write a front page story like this without doing an ounce of research? Even the barest cursory Internet search (Wikipedia, Google etc.) would’ve shown the facts. Incredibly lazy, incompetent and somewhat disturbing.

  4. They couldn’t possibly let the truth get in the way of a nice sensational headline now, could they?

  5. Only a comment, people must not get a wrong idea, a homoparenting family only includes two men or two women, as progenitors.

    1. Except here it’s shared between a single mother and a gay male couple.

  6. Only a comment, people must not get a wrong idea, a homoparenting family only includes two men or two women, as parents.

  7. But this is NOT same-sex parenting; Charlie Condou is raising his child with a WOMAN. Logically, he is a MAN raising a child with a woman.

No offence to Mr Condou, I actually think he is doing the right thing by giving the child an opportunity to have a mother and father-good on him for this- but it really escapes me why he’s campaigning for same-sex parenting when he’s doing precisely the OPPOSITE!

    1. To add: I think people are getting sexuality mixed up with gender here. A gay man raising a child with a lesbian/woman is not involved with same sex parenting.

      1. He is when he lives with another man (and not the woman).

        1. It’s no different to a heterosexual couple splitting up and sharing custody of their child. There’s no Daily Star ‘expose’ when this happens. So what if he has a male partner and not a female partner? The child STILL has a mother and father playing an active role in its life-that’s what is important. Good on him. There’s no reason why a gay man can’t be a good father at all. Or a lesbian a good mother. My only objection is when a same-sex couple deliberately cut an opposite sex parent out of a child’s life. Charlie Condou has done the best he can and is to be applauded for reaching what I can consider to be a good balance of his right to be gay and the children’s right to a mother and father.

Nevertheless, co-parenting with a member of the opposite sex is hardly championing same-sex parenting.

          1. Point taken, but my understanding is that Condou’s partner has been an active participant in the arrangement from the beginning – I recall reading somewhere that the initial consultations were attended as a threesome, which confused some people.

          2. On a documentary called “Religious” there’s this church in america in which they pair off “ex-gay” men who struggled with “homosexual tendencies” with “ex-gay” women who struggled with “homosexual tendencies”

Having a parent of each gender would be good for a child in THEORY, but personally I would rather be raised in an orphanage, by a gay couple, or a single parent than 2 “ex-gay” parents; that is just a time bomb waiting to happen and no child should have to deal with their confusing crap !!

          3. The needs of children mean they have a ‘right’ to be loved and cared for, not a ‘right’ to a parent of either sex. This is, as ever, turning biology into a moral and social fetish, valuing form over content and its origins are in patriarchy’s deep assumption of male entitlement to control and ‘legitimize’ female child-bearing. Loving and stable environments benefit children; given these as a starting point, there is no evidence that some gender combinations among their carers benefit children more than others.

          4. I have to agree with Riondo, there’s no such thing as a ‘right’ to have parents of both sexes, that’s just a biological given, and one that’s as often undermined by war, disease etc. (You might have a right to know who your parents are, but that’s a different issue.)

Plenty of people have been brought up successfully by single parents – or, for that matter, in broader familial environments, as in many parts of the world to this day where there are aunts, stepmothers, grandparents actively involved in bringing up children.

          5. Rehan, do you not differentiate between people making the best of a bad situation i.e. widowhood and war and DELIBERATELY bringing about a situation where a child has no mother or father? I do. There is a major difference between a widow /widower who has had to make the best of it and a couple of selfish gays who with forethought and pre-planning think their right to a child is worth more than the CHILD’S opportunity to have opposite sex parents.

I really think that what those Essex gay dads are doing is contemptible.

And this is from somebody who is otherwise quite comfortable with gay men/ lesbians co-parenting with a member of the opposite sex. Something which I can assure you TRUE bigots would not be happy with at all.

          6. I agree with you, this is not a typical example of a family in which the parents are gay, because parents are actually a man (gay or bi) and a woman, the other man is only the husband or boyfriend’s father.

But I disagree with you about that a women is essential for raising children, two men (a gay couple) can raise a child without a women.

            .

    2. No, Condou lives with his partner Cameron Laux, and the mother of the children lives separately. They share the upbringing between the two households.

    3. I agree with you, this is not a typical example of a family in which the parents are gay, because parents are actually a man (gay or bi) and a woman, the other man is only the husband or boyfriend’s father.

  8. I just love the way that he makes light of it.

  9. “Secret shock love children” – LOL

I think you should do a feature on the storyline wth him on Coronation Street in which after being best friends with Maria and openly gay for several years he’s magically fallen in love with her!!

The gay community has a big problem with sexual orientations suddenly shifting and falling in love with their “hag”‘s, right? I mean, it’s SUCH a common occurence……………………………………………………

  10. It think the shocking headline would be if the Daily Star actually found some real newsworthy story to print on its front page and the rest of its meagre pages.

  11. #Jaylo,
