  1. The head of any schools found to be perpetuating homophobia should be sacked. They are either guilty of negligence by not amending their policies or deliberately ignoring the repeal for their own reasons – probably religious. In either case, they are not fit for purpose.

    1. I’m not in anyway excusing these outdated and divisive policies, but in reality, it’s not the headteachers who are to blame. These policies are the responsibility of the Board of Governors of these schools. The headteachers have to do as the board tell them. Granted, the heads could voice opposition to these policies, but they obviously have their jobs to protect too.

What mealy-mouthed nonsense. The homophobia here is barely disguised. Given the extent to which heteronormativity is promoted, and has been for millennia without interruption, it’s about bloody time that homosexuality had a chance.

And if the BHA hadn’t discovered not one of the 45 schools or academies, the wording would still be in place. Who do they think they’re kidding? False outrage, nothing more.

  4. They’ve had ten years to change the policy and have taken no action until they were sprung, it’s not very convincing considering the devastating consequences of such a homophobic policy, there should be consequences for the school governors for what looks like wilful negligence.

Discrimination is as discrimination does! The words are meaningless, actions are what count! Prejudice by its very nature is something that undermines all goodness and anyone found to be harboring such horrid beliefs is completely UNFIT to be around children. PERIOD! Racists, bigots, homophobes should never be allowed to teach children at all.

Hmmm…Russia seems to have copied your section 28 ‘law’…..thanks Margaret Thatcher! Here in the US we have MANY such discriminatory laws on the books…..imagine, promoting bigotry, prejudice and hatred in one’s LAWS! It is beyond comprehension in the 21st century. These laws belong in the 11th century, but we still have them, and most were passed in the last 20 yrs! So much for ‘progress’! Religion is evil!

  7. I work for a UL academy and we are very gay friendly.

  8. I’m still trying to figure out how one “promotes” homosexuality!

It seems to be another right-wing, fear based, solution looking for a problem.
