  1. Cllr John Worrow 7 Aug 2013, 7:43pm

    Well done Chris!

    1. Yes, an excellent list of suggestions from Mr. Bryant. Let’s hope that Mr. Cameron decides to observe at least some of them.

Meanwhile the symbolic gesture of publicly emptying (and videoing) all bottles of Russian Vodka that we currently possess would be powerful provided lots of people get behind it.

You guys who created the excellent “Lobby a Lord” website, how about quickly whipping up a “Ditch the Vodka!” website to which people all over the world can upload videos of 1000s and 1000s of Vodka bottles being emptied in the most public and humiliating manner?

Archbishop Welby speaking out? NOT! None of the faith leaders will which means their silence gives consent and reinforces what most have always and will be, homophobic bigots.

    Tinkering at best…sorry
Why not call for the olympics to be moved?
Why not call for a boycott of the games?
Why not call for a BBC blackout of the Olympic games or Sky etc?

Tinkering…we need action and men with a spine!

Personally speaking I am in favour of gay bars boycotting Chris Bryant.

    Just saying…

  5. > “Chris Bryant declined to speak to PinkNews about the issue of homophobic oppression in Russia.”

    WHY ?? That’s very disappointing.

    1. Because they always deliberately selectively quote and mis-quote him.

    2. I’m pretty sure he’s against it!!

  6. Beelzeebub 7 Aug 2013, 9:56pm

    No Chris.

You should be in favor of the IOC moving the Olympics to a country that understands the historical and current Olympic ideal and opposing the IOC’s policies that they are conveniently ignoring in pursuit of the mighty dollar.

Stephen Fry’s eloquent plead prevails over an above your petty pandering to these bigots for the sake of spoiled sports brats winning kudos and medals.

Have any of these self indulgent “me me me” sports idiots ever cured cancer or solved the energy crisis.

Have they found a solution to world poverty.

Its all just about them and their wanting to be number 1 over and above someone else. Better than. Self Self Self etc etc. in a bl00dy race or A N Other competitive pointless exercise.

Do your job Bryant and stop pandering to illogical vilness.

Or is it all about money…………..

  8. bla bla bla bla

  9. ‘… It’s time Cameron got tough with Putin over state-sponsored homophobic violence and repression in Russia…’

coming from a man who says no gay asylum seekers were deported from uk.

    anthony weiner of british politics

  10. Well, Mr Bryant, I’d really be interested to see your reaction if asylum-seekers come here to flee gay oppression in Russia?

  11. 14th IAAF World Championships in Athletics 10 – 18 August 2013.
Haven’t seen much mention of this, but it starts this Saturday.
    World Athletics Championships – Moscow

If it’s televised delete your channel until it’s over. Passive action better than no action

  12. Robert in S. Kensington 8 Aug 2013, 12:31pm

Cut off diplomatic ties, recall our ambassador for starters. Expel all Russian government officials from the UK.

  13. These are all minor little inconveniences and will do nothing to change this.

The ONLY thing we can do to change this and really pressure Russia is to get the games MOVED or cancelled.

And it seems that the only way to do this is to threaten boycotts against any company planning to associate themselves to the games.

The IOC has proven that it has little interest in defending Human Rights, we know they are in this for the money and have no incentive to change anything or really challenge Russia.

Boycotting Russian Vodka harms the companies using exported Russian ingredients and will do nothing to Russia itself.

Athletes are all seemingly spineless and more interested in their own glory than supporting Human Rights.

The only way to change anything will be to hit them in the wallet, and that means boycotts of all sponsors through a massive campaign of negative press and peaceful protest actions. It’s time people started realizing that this is a money making machine.

  14. I think all bars, shops and other outlets should stop selling Russian drinks and other consumables until this dreadful state of affairs is rectified.

  15. Is that not the sleeze merchant who advertised on dodgy websites in his smalls ? Yes I’m glad the Russians are banning such material for the under 18’s .
