These laws of Russia are getting way out of hand. Don’t go there, artists don’t perform there…..everyone stay away so they can eat, sleep, drink, sing, act and every other thing Russian only…market no goods there and sure as hell don’t buy any goods from there… exception….All gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals and transgendered persons should be allowed political asylum.

    1. And so the “book burning” begins.

Any intelligent gay people in Russia are probably packing their bags as we speak. I hope we in the West welcome them and their knowledge and skills with open arms.

I would go even further and say Western governments should be openly advertising a welcome for clever gay Russians. That might make them think.

      1. Intelligence has nothing to do with asylum. There are probably plenty of very intelligent people who are trapped their unable to move because of their age or economic status.

The Russians don’t want gay people, they don’t want intelligent people either, intellectuals and academics are persecuted by facist regimes so it’s a win win for them.

As an aside, I don’t think the UK government gave much thought to Alan Turing’s intelligence when they turned on him nor did the McCarthy era USA when it banned gay people from the “intelligence” services.

  2. I think irrespective of what you think of Madonna as a person what is clear is that for over 30 years she has been consistently supportive of the gay community.

Unlike some artists out there who seem to be chasing the pink pound she genuinely seems to care about LGBT issues, the evidence would suggest so anyway. She has nothing to gain by supporting gay people now, she’s the biggest selling female artist in history and her tours still sell out. I haven’t liked her music for some time but I do think her support for gay people is genuine.

  3. I am sure neither star gives to hoots about what these Nazi’s have to say. Try arresting them if they ever came back to Russia (I doubt they ever would). The international furore would be unprecedented.

I think it is time international artists stopped performing in Russia.

    1. Knee length kaftan, fur hat and leather boots sounds pretty gay to me.

  4. Madonna was promoted ahead of time prior to her appearances in Russia, so surely the comment:
“A Russian lawmaker has taken aim at Madonna and Lady Gaga, claiming that they violated their visa conditions when they performed shows in Russia, and that collecting money from their shows was therefore illegal.”

If Russia issued the Visa… and the Visa was the wrong type for her itinerary, surely it is Russia that is in the wrong.
