“President Michel Martelly, and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, which denounced the events, calling for tolerance from the majority of Haitians”.

Not sure if this is journalistic licence or the truth behind the story but already we have ‘us’ and ‘them’ and ‘minority’ and ‘majority’. Even in a call for toleration this balance seems wrong. Haiti seems to be going the same way as Russia.

  2. The US has various human rights commissions, but the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is not one of them, contrary to the article’s title. The IACHR is an international body whose head office is in the US, like the United Nations. It is part of the Organization of American States.
