  1. What does an angry lesbian look like? I tend to wear the same clothes whether I’m angry or happy.

    1. Poor choice of words by Valance but I like your comment Jules…it made me chuckle.

    2. The stereotype of a lesbian is always angry whether or not she is angry or happy obviously.

      1. I agree and I would add that we should be able to distinguish between being a tomboy and being aggressive. As a butch dyke, I’m just another tomboy, same as the straight tomboys such as Ms Valance. On the rare occasions I do get angry, it doesn’t make me wanna butch it up! And its ok to be feminine and angry too (check out Juliette Binoche as Vianne Rocher in Chocolat for a very elegant, feminine, rightfully angry woman for example), so please let’s consign the word feisty to the rubbish bin, recognise women’s right to be angry sometimes and/or feminine or a tomboy, and then we wouldn’t be hearing daft comments like these which I’m sure were not meant in a malicious way at all, just not very well-thought-through!

  2. Me too, very strange comment by miss Valance. Still very pretty though, angry or not.

  3. It’s just playing on stereotypes.. that lesbians are against the patriarchy and men and therefore do not dress in a feminine way.. At least that’s how I read it. Needless to say, not a great thing to say.

  4. What on earth does this mean? Stereotyping in a big way, and cheap journalism. Come on, GSN, you ate better than this?!

  5. Thanks for that gem, PN.

  6. Are we still doing this, in 2013? Let’s call it the tabloid syllogism.

I’m a lesbian, and frequently quite cross.

I dress more like Kate Middleton than the beautiful Ms Valance.

Kate Middleton dresses like an angry lesbian! There’s your headline, You Magazine. (See what I did there?)

      Brilliant.

  7. Well I’m a lesbian and I wear jeans, shorts, skirts (sometimes), I wear boots etc…I’m not angry at all! Saying that, how does a supposed angry lesbian dress?

This is the 21st century Holly, we’re meant to be moving on from these stereo typical images that can also be ward by straight women too!!
