  1. This bunch of social misfits still don’t get the message.

The church is losing influence *because* it has been on the wrong side of public opinion too often.

Poverty is bad, full stop. Usury is bad, full stop. Equal marriage is contentious. Find me someone – anyone – who thinks interest rates of 4000%+ are a good idea and maybe I’ll reconsider my view, but you don’t win friends or influence people on the contentious issues by playing to your own dwindling gallery and being outdated.

    1. The payday loan firms quite like it.

    2. Well said.

  2. Robert in S. Kensington 27 Jul 2013, 5:53pm

Oh, f-ck off, Minichiello, get a life you hateful bitch!

The CoE investing? So much for Jesus Christ kicking the money lenders out of the temple, hypocrites all.

    1. Anony Miss 27 Jul 2013, 6:36pm

I said the exact same thing to my GF yesterday

    2. I think it is hilarious that while welby and the bishops writhed in bitterness in the HOL wasting their breath and time spitting feathers about gay marriage, they were at the same time taking a salary from an investment arm screwing the poor sods who turn to loan firms like wonga.

    3. I have one thing and one thing only to say about Andrea Williams…

Has she got Bette Davies Eyes?

  3. Godric Godricson 27 Jul 2013, 5:54pm

This is delicious because the Christians are turning on each other after loosing the battle on equal marriage. I can’t wait for disestablishment to happen….it’s only a mtter of time with Welby in charge.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 28 Jul 2013, 1:09pm

Actually, Welby doesn’t oppose disestablishment but I suspect the majority of them wouldn’t want to lose any power than they already have. The quadruple lock gob-smacked them, put them in a corner from which they will find it hard to get out because of the majority’s opposition to equal marriage. I don’t think they quite expected such a drastic measure imposed by the Government, especially the Archbishop of Wales. Serves them right. They should have been more conciliatory during the debate and might have avoided the lock. Let them stew in their own stupidity.

  4. Traditional marriage.

    That will be polygamy then.

I do wish these Christians would read there hateful book.

    1. “Traditional marriage” – that would be a rape victim being forced to marry her rapist.
“Traditional marriage” – that would be stoning a woman to death if she wasn’t a virgin on her wedding night.
Oh, no. Sorry. That would be Biblical marriage. “Traditional marriage” pre-dates their stupid book of fairy tales and therefore isn’t bound by it. Thankfully.

  5. And now the implosion of the Church of England begins. Little miss Minichiello didn’t get what she wanted and is now sqweaming and sqweaming in a bad tempered hissy fit. Be fun watching them all tear each other to bits now. Ha ha ha ho ho ho.

  6. I agree with Christian Concern, the CofE should have spent as much of their time condemning equal marriage. — It would have hastened its (the church’s) demise even more. People already see the church as ‘out of touch’ with society. If they’d appeared in the media bashing gays and gay marriage (plus they’d just denied female bishops) people would have felt even more distant.
And one cannot wait until the church of England, along with the rest of religious organisations, are reduced to the same level as astrology groups. After all, it’s exactly what they are. There’s more truth in a bible than there is in a horoscope.

    1. *There’s no more truth in a bible, than in a horoscope

      1. Less: at least we know that the planets and stars exists.

    2. Anony Miss 27 Jul 2013, 6:39pm

Don’t you mean Lesbian, Gays, Bi’s and Trans people and it’s EQUAL marriage. Why is it that LGB peeps always leave us Trans peeps out???

      1. Unfortunately same-sex marriage won’t be ‘equal marriage’ due to the remaining inequalities in relation to pensions, insurance and survivor benefits (read the article about what Baroness Howe has said about this). It appears that the politicians fudged the legislation by only permitting same-sex civil marriage, but without the benefits (benefits in general, not just social security benefits) that heterosexual married couples enjoy. We all need to be aware that the campaign for marriage equality has yet to be won, otherwise we are far too easily pleased with what the politicians give us.

  7. Let’s not forget Sir Gerald Howarth (he of the Commons who called SSM “wretched” and spoke of the “aggressive homosexual”) who is widely championed and reported by the Mail and Telegraph is a Consultative Director of one these payday loan companies. These people are the face of of evil.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 28 Jul 2013, 3:13pm

But let’s not also forget he was quickly dispatched by the brilliant oration by the very capable and handsome Nick Herbert. Howarth was totally gob-smacked and I don’t think he was expecting anything quite like it. It was delicious watching him squirm while Nick nailed him. It shut him up once and for all. II expected John Bercow to intervene but I suspect he tacitly supported Nick’s comments and allowed him to continue. Shortly after, the Bill was passed by acclamation. How I gloated!

The entire opposition never imagined that there would have been so much support in both Houses and by such large majorities, especially in the Lords.

  8. Beelzeebub 27 Jul 2013, 6:32pm

    I see.

Condemning love is much more important than condemning usury.

I’m pretty sure there “new testament”
not as evil as the older version comic said lots about that.

I really do not understand how bitches like this can quantify there existence and the religion she claims to adhere to.

Has she ever read the bloody book.

Probalby not as it is a difficult read.

PS. Why do we have Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Paul etc. All Northern European names and clearly not from the bloody middle east where all this crap originated.

    1. Because the names are transliterations of names from ‘the bloody Middle East’ that have become Northern European names through the influence of Christianity.
Put at least a little thought into things.

      1. Beelzeebub 27 Jul 2013, 6:47pm

        You mean the MIS- transliterations.

Easier on the ear to the mugs they ended up screwing.

    2. and why were all his disicples men i wonder??? As a made up fantasy on biblical history (i.e.:fake) the writers of the bible certainly had a male sided twist to events. Makes you wonder!

  9. Anony miss 27 Jul 2013, 6:35pm

You know what, if these Christians put half as much effort in to persecuting their own paedophilic priests, pastors and clergyman and protesting the illegal laws this government is bringing in and helping the poor, disabled and vulnerable AS JESUS COMMANDED!!!

Then maybe, just maybe this planet would be worth living on.

  10. Christian Concern is a tiny group of religious extremists. Best not to give them any free publicity.

  11. Are Christian Concern the religious wing of the BNP?

  12. ? what is she going on about? Re Gays Jesus abolished the law that banned homosexulality!!! He also threw the money changers outta the temple saying that the Church SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING EXTORTIONATE RATES TO THE NEEDY!! and Justin & his crew do what ?

  13. Seems to me that the CoE DID pursue a campaign against same sex marriage equality until they realised just how out of step they were with the rest of the country. How much easier for them to kick of a cynical PR campaign by jumping on the bandwagon of condemning pay day loan companies.

  14. The AoC is gaining a lot of support regarding his Wonga statements, including praise from atheists. This belies the claim that Christians are not being listened to or are in some way being persecuted. The trick is to pick the right or just argument as the AoC is doing on this occasion. The anti equality campaign was never going to succeed because most could see that it was cruel and unjust.

  15. For a group of people who celebrate the death and can’t wait to get to their heaven, they seem to be overly obsessed with what happens here..

Get over it religies, ye will always be disappointed here on earth. Get the fick off if you don’t like it.

  16. I heard Welby talk about Wonga. He called then ‘well run’, ‘not the worst’ etc etc.

I also heard The Archb of York and the rest of them ranting on about equal marriage in the most vicious way.

It’s pretty clear to me where the strongest words were spoken.

Was Christian Concern so busy bleating their own filthy bile that they missed the vile pronouncements of the CofE? Or do they really mean that their homophobic attacks were unsuccessful and the payday loans intervention hit a nerve with the public.

  17. CH Brighton 27 Jul 2013, 10:07pm

Frankly, Christian Concern, The Christian Institute and Anglican Mainstream are Hate Groups and should be dealt with as such

    1. Well said! and why are bishops allowed into the Lord’s? This unelected bunch have done nothing but block every piece of equality legislation concerning the LGBT community. If someone comments that they are there to represent a part of the make up of british society, then my reply is fine! Then where is OURS?

  18. We should leave the fringe anti-gay misfits at Christian Concern to stew in their cesspit of sh1t and puss that they created for themselves. Nobody takes these creepy sociopaths seriously.

The law is past, the debate is over, and the sooner Christian Concern disbands the better the world will be. Andrea Minichiello Williams is a complete nutter – she should be sectioned.

    1. I knew that didn’t look right – could figure out why. “Past” = “Passed” !!
      sorry :(

  19. Jock S. Trap 28 Jul 2013, 10:22am

As the Church of England have show themselves up as blatant Hypocrites esp over Wonga I think Christian Concern should shut the frack up!!

    Somehow.. I don’t it’ll happen though!

  20. Michael 2912 28 Jul 2013, 10:47am

What a stark contrast there is between these guys and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

  21. Unfortunately, those so called christian groups don’t follow the path of Archbishop Desmond Tutu why not? Well if that’s game they wants to play? Then let them be answerable to … The Book of Judges verse 7. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire and speak in a language that they understand.
    Respect to the LGBT Community.

  22. Maybe “Christian Concern” should focus on opposing things that actually hurt people.

  23. Tim Hanafin 28 Jul 2013, 1:01pm

Oh boo-ho! Nobody cares what you think. Get your religious noses out of secular matters. You have your quadruple lock protection to prevent CofE SSMs so butt out. If this is what you are ‘concerned’ about you must be living a blinkered life. Get out of your comfortable middle class homes and do what Jesus would have done and identify with the disadvantaged, the poor, the despised. You’re all bloody Pharisees.

    1. Michael2912 28 Jul 2013, 1:40pm

Sadly there isn’t a simply correlation between those of a bigoted mindset and a particular social class. If the one they you infer had any factual base I’d have had a happier working class childhood and adolescence than I did.

      1. Tim Hanafin 28 Jul 2013, 2:00pm

I don’t really get your point as your sentence doesn’t make sense. However, if you look at the contributors to the Christian Concern website I think you would allow me the characterisation of the ‘comfortable middle class’.

  24. Even if a person is anti-ssm, Wonga is a much more important issue.

A person is free to find ssm ridiculous, but , realistically, if there is any actual harm it is nothing compared to the damage that Wonga and the like do.

The church has got its priorities right.

  25. Andrea Minichiello Williams is a posturing mental midget and religious extremist who few people admire or would take seriously, she represents the loony unpleasant side of religious activism that has been imported from USA and is a front for the anti-gay US Alliance Defense Fund here in UK attempting to interfere in UK politics..

  26. The Vatican owns a porno production company so who’s surprised really

  27. Bill Cameron 28 Jul 2013, 5:11pm

Betty Bowers explains all about “Bible-based Traditional Marriage” here:
    http://youtu.be/OFkeKKszXTw

    – apart from being solidly-based on biblical text, it is very funny. I’ve quoted a few of her lines to some of the wilder religious nut-jobs over the years and it normally leaves them spluttering in rage. Maybe we could get the BBC to show it the next time they have one of their “balanced” debates on the issue ;)

  28. GulliverUK 28 Jul 2013, 6:40pm

I note that they (both of them, Christian Concern and Christian Legal Centre) are not charities and can’t be.

Under current law both Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre are not for profit companies, neither are eligible for charitable status because of our campaigning work and so we are not able to claim gift aid as charities do. “

Yet those {unts at Christian Institute are, and yet they’ve campaigned against every single piece of equality legislation, age of consent, goods and services, etc., etc. So surely Christian Institute should not have charitable status? Have we collectively been exceptionally lazy in not demanding their charitable status be invalidated?

They are the ones who have been organising against us in the equal marriage debate, they are our worse foe, not this crackpot Christian Concern organisation. We should make sure we take on the Christian Institute.

    1. I think Peter Tatchell tried to challenge charitable status of the so-called Christian Institute some years ago and was unsuccessful.
Perhaps it’s time to try again Gulliver.

  29. Tom (Winnipeg) 28 Jul 2013, 8:58pm

This religious fool should hang his head in shame, and get off this ignorant trip that he’s been on all his life. What a waste of humanity. He could have been doing something useful

  30. “Christian concern”

In the USA they are the “conderned citizens councils” – racist groups who also hate gays. Some are on the southern poverty law center hate group list.

In the USA we call them “white trash” and rednecks – the redneck is from how the back of their neck gets red as does their face whenever they encounter opposition to their racist policies

BTW they remind me of hitler who mass murdered gays and blacks, as well as Jews, hundreds of thousands of gypsies etc

Sick packages where the docs must have accidentaly thrown out the babbies and saved the afterbirth

Enough of their crap. tomorrow I leave for Stockholm Prides.

  31. Christian Concern & Andrea Minichiello Williams = The face of Christianity gone rotten.

  32. Andrea Minichiello Williams was featured in a Dispatches documentary which showed the close links she has with various members of the Conservative Party, especially Nadine Dorries. In the programme, Williams is seen to make a number of controversial statements, including claims that the Human Fertilisation bill was ‘the work of the devil’, that abortion should be illegal, homosexuality is sinful and the world is just 4,000 years old

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 29 Jul 2013, 1:35pm

Williams sometimes writes pieces for anti equal marriage adulteress Dorries to read out in Parliament in the area of female reproductive rights which both are against apparently. Dorries should never have been allowed back into the House, banished from it altogether.

  33. And this group is disappointed because Jesus said so much more about homosexuality than he did about greed, usury and bilking the poor???? Perhaps Christian Concern should concern themselves with having another go at grasping the gist of the gospel they purport to represent.

  34. Peter Gregory 30 Jul 2013, 4:10pm

They’re all just a loada screwed up insecure immature guys in frocks without lives of their own trying to get some power thing by preaching hatred. Bitter screwed up people. In stupid frocks & hats
