UK LGBT radio station Gaydio has announced it will be going on DAB in Merseyside, North Wales and Cheshire for the rest of the summer.

Gaydio, which is also on DAB radio in London and Sussex, will be available for six weeks from Monday 29 July, coinciding with Liverpool’s Pride Festival.

The launch will see the station become accessible to over 15 million people and is currently the only terrestrial broadcast service aimed at LGBT community in the UK.

Toby Whitehouse, station director of Gaydio, said: “We’re so excited to be launching our Liverpool service. We already have a great following in Liverpool and have supported Pride for the past 4 years and this makes it easier for people across Merseyside to tune in. The huge footprint of our service, covering over 2 million people means that we will be welcoming many new listeners to the station.”

At the start of the year, QSoft Consulting announced the closure of GaydarRadio, its former dance and LGBT-orientated digital radio station based in south-west London.

Its broadcasting licenses were handed to Gaydio, based in Manchester, on 7 January 2013.
