I hope many thousands of gay Brazilians turn up. I would love to be there.

To digress, does anyone know the status of Equal Marriage in Brazil? I’d read that fourteen states had legalized it but then I also read that a court had allowed across the entire country but it is still unclear if that is the case subject to contestation which would make England/Wales the 15th country to introduce it, not 16th as some say. Which is it?

Good question. I note that the “Talk” page on Wikipedia’s same sex marriage entry has been the place to quibble about the status of England and Wales and marriage. This quibbling seems to be based on a dislike of equal marriage rather than the national boundaries. Hey-ho!

    2. It’s legal throughout the country. However, it has been challenged to the Supreme Court. But it’s currently legal. We have a favorable supreme court, so I would not worry about it.

      1. The National Justice Council, which effectively legalised same-sex marriage, is actually headed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Brazil, so even less likely. Another route for the opposition is for parliament to pass a law to ban same-sex marriage… and there is a powerful religious faction within congress, I don’t know what chance there is of it happening though.

  2. Wonder how many priests will take part …..? :)

  3. I would love to be there myself…however I think I would be torn between participating in the Kiss In or the Slut Walk…lol

  4. I’m sorry I was staring at that unbelievably cute photo and forgot what I came here for. What were we talking about again?

  5. …looks like it was a great success and went totally unnoticed !

3 Million people were busy elsewhere it seems .

    Benedicite Deum papam !
