The adamantly homophobic Westboro Baptist Church has tweeted to attack the Queen for adding her signature to the equal marriage bill for England and Wales, giving it Royal Assent to become law.

A photograph posted on Twitter by the Westboro Baptist Church, directed at PinkNews shows a woman holding a sign depicting Queen Elizabeth II, head of the Church of England, with the slogan “Queen of Fags”.

They then tweeted PinkNews: “The treacherous old woman who is pictured in the sign is Queen Elizabeth II. The rambunctious, sassy girl holding the sign is Anna Phelps ;)”

The church is headed by Fred Phelps, who is banned from entering the UK for inciting homophobia. Other members of the church have also been warned that they face a ban if they try to bring homophobic pickets into the country.

Earlier this month the church tweeted PinkNews a flyer, pictured below, which used a meme put out to celebrate the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill being signed by Queen Elizabeth II.

The flyer reads: “God hates ‘Royal’ whores”, “Man’s job: Obey God”, and suggests that equal marriage in the UK will be its “doom”.

It is then accompanied by a quote from Daniel 4:17 which reads: “This matter is by the decree of the watchers…  to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to  whomever he will, and setteth up over it the BASEST OF MEN”.

The adamantly homophobic church, which receives tax benefits, is known for its anti-gay rhetoric, and often attempts to picket funerals or events of people who it sees to be pro-gay, or accepting of gay, lesbian or bisexual people.

Last month the church took umbrage at a pink lemonade stand run by a 5-year-old in the name of an anti-bullying campaign, and told her she would “burn in hell”.

The church previously tweeted PinkNews to say that God sent the killers in the suspected terror killing in Woolwich, London, because the equal marriage bill passed its third reading in the House of Commons.

It previously thanked God for a lethal tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma, leaving at least 24 people dead, saying it’s because of gay basketball player Jason Collins.
