  1. Disgusting, of course. And a lot of LGBT women interpret remarks regarding “turning” us as a subconscious ideation to carry out a sexual assault.

That said, this is not just about Clare Balding, but about how women in general are treated by the Boy’s Club BBC – It is a creaking anachronism of misogyny and bigotry. That he was offered a new contract at all is evidence enough of that.

  2. I can’t see why you are telling us this.

  3. To be honest the remarks were more laddish and childish than homophobic and I think his contract was over at the BBC anyway but he’s moving to a very homophobic radio station

“Laddish” is invariably an attempt to spin “loutish” in a positive light. Children need to be corrected and disciplined when they misbehave.

Let’s not make excuses for bad behaviour; paid professionals and programme makers should be doing better than this.

Any one who knows Colin Murray or has listened to a broad sample of his output will know that he is one of the most naturally gay-friendly and gay-positive broadcasters out there. His easy and open on-air discussions with John Barrowman where he discusses sexuality and his sneaking envy of gay men are a case in point. A big mistake was made on a show he was hosting and I’m sure he regrets it deeply. He will be a sad loss to the BBC and why he wants to leave and join the pond-life at Talk Sport is a mystery except in the context that the BBC do not seem to know the difference between a persistent attention-seeking bigot like Clarkson and decent bloke who just cocked up the once like Murray.
