  1. I can’t help but wonder where all these champions of equality where 10, 15 years ago when I was a boy.

  2. Wonder if Ian Paisley Jnr was in the sudience?

  3. I took the time to listen to the lecture and the discussion after it (link at the bottom of the article) and was very impressed with John Bercow, he has a wry sense of humor which is always a plus in a discussion. I was impressed that he is one of those unfortunately rare people that are willing to fundamentaly revising his view when the underpinnings of his beliefs are found to be unsupportable or wrong.
Well worth a listen in my opinion.

I agree – if you have the time do listen tot he four recordings. John Bercow speaks at great length, with precision, verve, humour and at times great emotion. It’s a very profound contribution for the Speaker to make this speech in Northern Ireland. It was a very moving contribution from someone who hasn’t always supported equality but is of late a very ardent supporter of the cause – even though he is a Speaker.
