  1. The worrying thing is, it could actually happen, seeing as the way Russia is going for vilifying it’s LGBT citizens.

    1. I doubt it. Even they have a minimal standard of laws.

      1. The majority of Russians are for criminalizing homosexuality (like it was under the old sodomy laws). Why would they be against flogging? I read in Russian, and one of the popular homophobic responses in arguments about lgbts having the right to demonstrate and picket is “let them hold their parade on the Day of the Border Patrol” (with the implication that the border patrol corps will beat up lgbts).

    2. Christian Orthodox fundamentalist’s in Russia competing with Islamic fundamentalist’s to see who can be the most outrageously insane, out of touch, the most regressive, repressive and the most intolerant abusers of human rights.

    3. They might try it, but the European Court of Human Rights would make them kick the law out for breaching Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (specifically its prohibition on “inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”).

  2. Sick freaks. Only in the minds of the most deranged, religion-addled and ignorant is an act of violence “better” somehow than completely benign intimate acts between consenting adults.

Russia working hard on being a hysterical freakshow of a nation.

    1. WrathOfGod 20 Jun 2013, 4:14pm

      ‘… acts between consenting adults.’
So, incest is okay then? Gay incest, so inbreeding is not an issue. How can you look two gay brothers in the eyes and tell them their love for one another is wrong? You can’t. Where do you derive your code of sexual ethics? Mine comes from the New Testament and Jesus’ teachings – you sexual revolutionaries just make it up as you go along.

      1. Yes, and the problem is? What two consenting adults do is none of anyone’s business, lest they do something that goes against the laws of our instinctual morality (such as murder).

        1. WrathOfGod 20 Jun 2013, 5:56pm

So the homosexuals are okay with incest (and by extension, incestuous marriage) then, good, we’ve cleared that up. Next stop, “lets follow Spain and reduce to age of consent to 12 because UK in unequal!” I can already hear the boy-hungry gays screeching it now.

          1. “Boy-hungry gays screeching”? You seem to have Ishoos that run rather deep. I suggest you look to some form of therapy to sort yourself out.

          2. Oh dear, you are a f**kwit aren’t you?

Let’s get one thing clear here. For the most, gay men are LESS likely to be the ones inflicting harm on children.

Secondly, incest is wrong on so many levels and I think it is fair to say that all of us who post on here would agree to that. I love my brother but that love is different to the love that I have for my civil partner.

Take your trolling elsewhere please, you’re not wanted here!

      2. Metsän poika 20 Jun 2013, 4:50pm

You idiot, there is no proof that god exists, so this so called ‘WrathOfGod’ that is your nom-de-plume is based on a fallacy. But if you want to believe this, don’t do whatever your book tells you not to. You are only responsible for your own soul and I am responsible for my own ‘soul’. So back-off, mind your own business (and soul for that matter) and leave me to take care of my own ‘soul’.

      3. You are obviously suffering from a severe and chronic case of ennui.

      4. God – fiction created to control the idiot peasantry.

And beyond inbreeding the primary factor that makes incest unlawful is that consent is considered suspect – so it is typically outside exactly the kind of consenting relationship that I mentioned.

You really are just another magic-boggled simpleton, trying for idiot “gotchas” when you don’t even have the faintest clue or understanding on the very subjects that you cite.

My question becomes this – does religion entice the stupid, or does it make otherwise rational people utter bloody fools?

        1. WrathOfGod 20 Jun 2013, 5:44pm

If you look at the age disparity in many homosexual relationships, I’d say that’s more suspect than two gay twin brothers having a sexual relationship. The reason the age of consent was 21 and later 18 for homosexuals is that they are known to prey on younger men/boys. Just look at the percentage of child molestation committed by gays. The paedophiles in the Roman Church are almost exclusively homosexual. And remember what Tatchell wrote in the Guardian back in ’97, about how paedophilia isn’t necessarily wrong, and how he wants do reduce the age of consent to 14?

          1. Nonsense. Now, if I was as manifestly dishonest, with my head as far up my own ass as you, I would point out that statistics clearly show that incest and child abuse is predominantly heterosexual in nature and therefore make a fallacious correlation between the two.

But then I am not brain-damaged by magical idiocy written down by bronze age sheep-shaggers, grounded in the paranoid schizophrenic delusions of a would-be child killer.

          2. s that they are known to prey on younger men/boys.

You have achieved a level beyond stupidity, especially so in light of recent revelations re Jimmy Savile and Stuart Hall. You seriously need to get out more or, at the very least, learn when to shut up.

          3. “If you look at the age disparity in many homosexual relationships, I’d say that’s more suspect than two gay twin brothers having a sexual relationship”

A stupid statement, typically lacking the erudition that comes with a religious dumbing down of the mind.

You are to be pitied and ignored.

      5. Fred Phelps, please get off the internet, your wife/sister is calling you

    2. I love Russia, and feel now as if I were watching my beloved fall into senile dementia.

  3. Christopher 20 Jun 2013, 3:28pm

Sounds like someone has a thing for slapping man ass.

    1. “In Russia for many centuries the ass was used for educational purposes”

Presumably they were taught to speak out of it?

    2. Any nice gay marines out there who’d like to slap this guy’s ass?

  4. Just a thought; Seeing as a lot of gay people don’t like anal sex, but it is a practice performed by both straight and gay couples, shouldn’t they just ban anal sex instead? Oh no wait, they wouldn’t be able to victimise us then.

    Silly me.

  5. the ass was used for educational purposes?? what??

    1. marshlander 20 Jun 2013, 4:15pm

That left me confused too. Was he talking about smacking kids here?

    2. …obviously the A$$#0|e proposing this got his degree in that major.

  6. The Halcyon 20 Jun 2013, 3:37pm

Time to expel Russia from the Council of Europe. It’s clearly run by a gang of thugs whose political and social ideals are out of step from the rest of the continent.

    1. Colin CASS 20 Jun 2013, 3:47pm

Quite right The Halcyon ,The Civilised world should turn thier backs on Russia! It is so easy to see how they support every cesspit & lowlife despot in the World!
They are trying to flex the muscles ,they NO LONGER HAVE,to Bully Sections of thier own Society who cannot fight back against the State!

    2. If you expel Russia though they are no longer bound by councils communal laws (granted they’ve not done much) but by kicking Russia out you will take away Europe’s obligation to stand against Russia on this issue.

We cannot abandon the LGBT people in Russia to these tyrannical laws to suffer.

      1. How is the European Convention protecting any Russian lgbts now? You are reading things in translation. But believe me, much worse things are appearing in Russian. Russian government is clearly not accepting the decisions of the Court in Strasbourg on issues of lgbt rights. And they’re not likely any time soon.

        1. Sadly it’s not just Russia that ignores the ECHR. The UK has spent the last eight years steadfastly ignoring the court’s 2005 ruling that prisoners must normally be given the vote. Certainly ours is a less serious matter the LBGT rights violations in Russia, and it’s easy to be sympathetic to the UK government’s position. But how can the UK criticise Russia for ignoring the ECHR, when we do precisely the same?

  7. Human Rights organisations and governments seriously need to put pressure on Russia and the 2014 Olympics needs to be boycotted.

    1. GulliverUK 20 Jun 2013, 3:53pm

What right-thinking athlete or sports association could possibly want to have any involvement in going to Russia. People should certainly boycott the 2014 Olympics.

    2. Don’t boycott Olympics – Make sure the British athletes carry rainbow flags during the opening march. Don’t boycott Eurovision, send more gays there with openly gay songs. You don’t know how pissed off Russia was about the Finnish singer kissing a woman last month.

  8. I think this MP might be projecting his own desires here.

  9. Colin Andrew 1966 20 Jun 2013, 3:44pm

Russia has one of the world’s lowest birthrates, hopefully in a few generations they’ll have gone completely.

    1. That’s why most countries in the world want to eradicate homosexuality.

      1. Your reasoning is flawed. Iran, where the attitude towards homosexuality makes it a capital crime, has a lower birth rate than Russia. Trying to eradicate homosexuality will do nothing to increase birth rates. The real solution to low birth rates is better economic prospects for all citizens so that they feel stable enough to afford to have more than one child if they so choose. Ample child care services and a robust education system would also be helpful.

  10. Robert in S. Kensington 20 Jun 2013, 3:48pm

Pariah nation status should be accorded post haste. What a vile society. To think it’s one of the five permanent members of the UN.

I don’t think even the nastiest religious loons in the UK would even stoop to such a level.

Russia has NO place in the Council of Europe, one of the worst violators of human rights.

    1. I was at the Council of Europe a few days ago. I was told that Russia has the most human rights cases than any other country that is in the Council of Europe.

Needless to say, that was the least surprising fact I had heard that day. I was more surprised that it was raining!

  11. GulliverUK 20 Jun 2013, 3:49pm

Russia is now a freak show on the International stage – it should be thrown out of the Council of Europe – this has gone far enough. The Council was set up to protect rights, not to re-enact WWII. This is where Russia is heading, it starts with one group, then another. Already they are imposing draconian laws across the board. And their elections are a joke.

For Russian parliament read Russian Orthodox Church.

    1. Wile I agree with your sentiment I fear that we need to keep Russia within the CoE.Cutting them loose of even some semblance of judicial control would give Putin his own private empire ,which I fear would make things even worse for people there .

  12. GulliverUK 20 Jun 2013, 3:55pm

Certainly living up to your name.

    1. casparthegood 20 Jun 2013, 4:37pm

Beat me to it (pardon the pun) As for the MP, he really needs to keep his fantasies to himself.

  13. Beelzeebub 20 Jun 2013, 4:01pm

    Note the word “sinful”

Ergo. Yet another religiously brainwashed piece of sh!t.

    1. It’s probably just that poor little poppet Keith yet again.

    2. Yep, he just can’t keep away!

  14. It’s an old and failed method of “loving” parents of their gay children. That is to beat the gay out of the child. The word used in the title of this article is incorrect. The proper word is flogging.

  15. Dear God, what woodwork, what primeval slime, do these people crawl out of?

  16. Here’s some of what the Marquess of Lothian had to say on Monday re Russia and marriage equality

… Whatever we do in terms of same-sex marriages, we are not creating the same meaning, but a legal definition which will be applicable in this country and in this country only. We could be creating enormous problems of definition if, for example, a couple who, believing that they were married under this piece of legislation, were to go to another country which did not accept that definition of marriage—and Russia comes to mind, given what its parliament did the other day ….

So, not in favour of marriage equality because it would upset the Russians.

    1. GulliverUK 20 Jun 2013, 4:52pm

I have in mind that, unlike some of those thickos in the House of Lords, who embarrass this entire nation, someone who is gay will be fully aware that some countries won’t recognise their relationship, and before travelling or indeed moving to another country, would have the forethought to check on how their legal status will be treated. This is basically true of travel anywhere, in case one partner is seriously injured and you might need hospital visitation or power to make medical decisions. Even travelling across the US you’d go from one place where your marriage was recognised, through a state where it wasn’t, to another where it wasn’t, and on to somewhere where it was. A bizarre and perplexing situation. We might even find ourselves in that situation if equal marriage isn’t promptly enacted in Scotland, and that would certainly be the case in Northern Ireland. But it’s certainly one of the more strange reasons for opposing marriage equality I’ve heard. Good spot.

      1. Gulliver, your reference to the US is actually the tip of the iceberg… especially in the area of Human Resources. Nation wide as more and more corporations recognize equality and offer partner benefits and incentives, many states don’t. The legal recognition of marriage in some, vs bans in others has by example made it harder to offer employee’s transfers to other states. Whilst corporations would still honor/offer the same benefits packages etc regardless of state, employee’s won’t move to forfeit/loose their legal status, parental rights etc.The flip side is some employers benefit from employee’s request to be transferred to states where equal marriage is legal.

  17. When there is something deeply rotten and corrupt with a government they pick on easy targets to distract from that rot – hateful behaviour.

  18. Helge Vladimir Tiller 20 Jun 2013, 4:27pm

IDIOT–the very same word in Norway as well. AND in many countries around the world. Same spelling, too. WE won again !

  19. The more Russia misbehaves, the more I feel the need to agree with this video.

  20. Methinks its this man that needs to be slapped.

  21. Russia is a primitive dump inhabited by wild, uncultured savages. This article is unsurprising, i’m just waiting for the Russians to follow ugander(ironic as racist Russians feel they are somehow superior to Africans) with a murder bill.

    1. Uganda!

      1. Typing error, it happens! don’t get your knickers in a twist.

  22. Sean Johansen 20 Jun 2013, 4:56pm

They need to strip Russia of the rights to hold the Olympic games in Sochi, and the World Cup in Russia. They are not fit to hold these games. They are a barbaric little nation.

  23. marines whipping another man’s ass? sounds like mr Mikhailov watched too much gay porn

    1. What if the gay person being whipped is also a marine? He obviously hasn’t contemplated that.

  24. Russia has deteriotated into a totaliterian dictatorship and everything possible must or should be done to help the LGBT Community. Russia is and has gone backwards. It is a sick country run by the Putin twins.

  25. What a backward f***ing country Russia is!

  26. Kelvin Beer-Jones 20 Jun 2013, 5:22pm

But the least we can do is (1) boycott these places, economically and socially and (2) ensure that they get maximum exposure for their vile policies. Please remember that if they are doing this to gays, then they will be just as nasty to other people they feel superior to.

  27. “In Russia for many centuries the ass was used for educational purposes and not for love entertainment. So we should use it according to its intended purpose,”

This has to be quote of the week!

So if the ass was used for educational purposes, after careful inspection what did they learn? Or does this mean that Russian Educators were talking out of their asses?

    1. I had assumed the fool meant that in the past Russia appointed asses (the 4-legged variety) to educate the populace….not that far in the past, if this ‘MP’ is anything to go by…

  28. Vladimir Poutin' 20 Jun 2013, 5:48pm

I don’t think I would mind if a sexy marine whipped me ;) Use my ass for your entertainment, baby.

  29. Never forget that whole swathes of eastern Europe have lived under totalitarian rule since the 1920s & that social and political development has subsequently been damaged and held back.

This perverted rubbish was also current in the west for many years – things will change but a lot of good people will have to suffer in the interim.

    1. Christopher Coleman 20 Jun 2013, 6:23pm

Totalitarianism and tyranny in Eastern and Central Europe go back way before 1920.

  30. I usually hate the thought of any violence. But damn it, I’d love to whip this particular bigoted asshole!

  31. At least learn how to spell correct before making an ass out of yourself. Your comment isn’t half as humorous if I can’t read it properly.

  32. Christopher Coleman 20 Jun 2013, 6:21pm

I call for public whipping of politicians who are a waste of space and public money.

  33. STOP buying Russian vodka and all other Russian imports… It’s very easily done!

    1. I don’t . I boycott Jamaican/uganderan/Saudi (other primitive anti human rights states) goods as much as I am aware also.

      1. Yet you support the EDL a group that is racist and no doubt homophobic?

        1. You assume to what I support, because I refuse to be bullied off a thread by some insincere, double standard, phoney pc agenda and I am not malleable to biased propaganda. If you are so vehement in your evidence that the EDL are racist and homophobic, you should report with your evidence to the police rather than repeat your usual obsessional tirade against the EDL on here. Likewise you can have a balanced approach as I do, to reporting homophobia and racism emanating from the Islamic community, Tory party, UAF etc .

  34. Georg Friedrich 20 Jun 2013, 7:18pm

Same situation in another Eastern European countries, like Poland or Lithuania (for example, propositions to beat participants of Gay Pride by ultra right Minister Giertych in 2006).

  35. Let me guess, Russian version of Dodd’s Parliamentary Companion:

Alexander Mikhailov – hobbies and pastimes: drinking after-shave and playing Russian Roulette.

  36. The Russian equivalent of Keith O’Brien..?

  37. That There Other David 20 Jun 2013, 9:41pm

    “For many centuries…”

Oh, he does actually acknowledge the passing of time then. From the rest of his speech he’s still living somewhere around the 11th Century.

  38. Alexander Mikhailov is very obviously a sick homophobe and a sadist.

    1. No, my perviedar tells me he’s a masochist yearning to be whipped by a burly marine.

  39. That guy is so much a gay in denial

  40. Eκηβόλος 20 Jun 2013, 11:22pm

  41. David Walsh 21 Jun 2013, 12:08am

Any interest I had in visiting Russia as a tourist just evaporated.

Someone with this view doesn’t even seem human to me. They seem like a sick, evil creature from another universe, or a Nazi executioner.

    1. You wouldn’t want to come to Chita, anyway. It’s one of the poorest regions in the country. And that’s probably the main reason the likes of Mikhailov have started the recent hate campaign. They are trying to divert our attention from the really important problems at hand. It’s as if there are no problems in Russia other than atheists and gays!

  42. JackAlison 21 Jun 2013, 5:52am

it makes you wonder when he is so explicit about the arse being not used for pleasure.
I know any psycologist would say he’s revealing far more about his own pecadillos than a gay person’s

  43. Har Davids 21 Jun 2013, 9:37am

Why not reintroduce hanging, drawing and quartering while you’re at it? If only it were possible to cure or kill idiots like these in one go.

  44. Some gay activists in Russia are suggesting, if we’re going back to a medieval approach to justice, to chop off the hands of thieves and corrupt people (politicians?) to see how that suggestion is taken by law makers…

  45. Robert Canning 26 Jun 2013, 12:08pm

Russian MP calls for the right of marines to whip gay people in public. Is this a sinister move to put gay clubs out of business?

  46. Richard the Big Bunny 27 Jun 2013, 4:42pm

Any hate-mongering politician who advocates violence against minorities should be kicked in the bollocks till they lose a testicle.

    I’m tired of playing nice.

  47. You know what they say about men who are against Gay’s, They in fact are gay themselves, and just don’t want to admit to it.

  48. This links with Russian military groups subjecting those in lower ranks to be male prostitutes. In Russia it has nothing to do with being gay – it is to do with those in power making themselves feel superior and forcing people to do as they are told. That is the point about the ass. So almost all posts here are correct: because that is how Russia is and now we all see them for what they are – the bullying state led by the biggest bully. Don’t expect them to change – they enjoy victimisation. Go there and see for yourselves.

  49. Good for Russia!

    Homosexuality = Genocide!

    1. That is a very narrow minded and uneducated statement. Gay people have been around for thousands of years and were openly accepted in many ancient societies. It was not until Christianity appeared in the world preaching is morality codes that a mass persecution of gay people occured. I think the world and the human race are more likely to be killed out by the overuse of fossil fuels killing the planet or by the overpopulation resulting in a lack of food. I may point out that as far as I am aware only heterosexuals can reproduce.

    2. Kenton Forshee 6 Aug 2013, 9:38pm

Homosexuality can’t equal genocide. Genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, Caste, religious, or national group”. And since gay people have existed the world over for as long as humans have existed yet the human race continues to grow in number there is nothing genocidal about homosexuality.

  50. What next? Will Russian bring back the pink triangle and make its LGBT citizens live in a segregated communities. In some countries across the world the battle for equality has been won. However we obviously have a long long way to win the war!

  51. “In Russia for many centuries the ass was used for educational purposes”

He must have been taught by an ass. What an education that must have been. Clearly.

  52. Kenton Forshee 6 Aug 2013, 9:29pm

His ignorance is a common shame.

  53. The scary part is that he says this and nobody tells him off.
Appalling how this den of hate run by the worst rogues of our time is only a short flight away from Western Europe. What a vile place!

  54. Charles Metcalfe 6 Aug 2013, 10:08pm

What kind of person even says things like this. It is time we accepted those around us and did not hold destructive prejudice views. I a world were we allow the legal slaughter of men and women like cattle is the day man becomes pure evil. We need to stop this form happening no one should have to suffer inj this way.

  55. I am Canadian and proud of it 7 Aug 2013, 12:30am

    Pathetic Russians
Get with the right Century or go back to
Underneath the sludge you crawled out from. People are people, regardless of their sexuality. I would be embarrassed if I was associated with Anyone who thought otherwise,

  57. How was the ass used for educational purposes, you nutbag!!?

Russia is on the same level as Zimbabwe at this point… it’s a deeply uncivilized place and I feel awful for the millions of LGBT stuck there.

  58. OJWhitefield 7 Aug 2013, 12:48pm

“In Russia for many centuries the ass was used for educational purposes and not for love entertainment. So we should use it according to its intended purpose”

yeaaah – you’re saying you want a law that promotes soldiers spanking people in public – and yet claiming somehow… you’re *not* gay?

It’s true. Heterosexuals can and do perform anal sex – homosexuals don’t have to – but to focus on areas of the body and practises that people are more likely to consider gross – and associating them with a group you wish to persecute – you are better able to indoctrinate the unenlightened with hate.

Just look at Uganda and the hateful ‘education’ there.

On a side note – what ‘traditional educational purposes’ do asses have in Russia? please tell me that isn’t actually a thing.

  59. Russia need to loose the Olympics, World Cup, Stripped of the Council of Europe membership, stop investment in the country and expel diplomats.

Putin in the new Stalin isn’t he

  60. Purely disgusting. Everyone is drawing comparisons to WWII for good reason and I feel like if the threat of war will do some justice then sign me up.

  61. Why is there not being more done! More publicity, more awareness, media, more ACTION! Russia is a freakshow & needs to be stopped! This Russian barbaric, mid-evil, devastating behavior is beyond criminal…

  62. HOW is this happening? HOW is Putin & his minions getting away with this? This mid-evil, barbaric, tragic, devastating behavior & ‘ideals’ NEEDS TO STOP! Why is the not more publicity &/or media, public awareness, more political awareness and action…the list goes on! How can the IOS & the world justify the Olympics remaining in that Russian freakshow….
