Odd that Israel recognises same-sex marriages performed outside of the country but not for its own gay citizens.

One of my favorite Israeli politicians. Pro equality and pro peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

  3. “the religious standards for marriage, […] is currently the only criteria recognised by the State of Israel”

And yet they’re always banging on about being the Middle East’s only secular democracy. Yeah right.

The fact that israel is a secular country means the bIll will be considered. I dont remember seeing those new and renowned democracies Libya , Tunisia and Egypt doing this. And that well known secular democracy Iran will have civil unions as its first order of business under its new President

There is more chance of Elvis Presley returning to Earth in a flying saucer, landing on the Loch Ness Monster then riding off on Shergar than Iran’s new President Rowhani decriminalizing homosexuality, let alone allowing civil unions in Tehran!

      2. You’re acting like having a better human rights record then Iran is some sort of crowning achievement. Iran is a hellhole, but that doesn’t raise my opinion of Israel at all.

Indeed, Israel is probably alone among “Western democracies” in having no form of secular civil marriage at all. On the other hand, that seems perfectly in line with places like Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Yes and Israel funded by the USA are the biggest terrorists in the area. Like I’d believe anything they stand for. Killing and depriving others of basics is what it stands for and most of the world agrees.

  4. It’ll be fun to have married gay couples in the middle east.

  5. She might have some trouble with that. Only 40% of Israelis (including under 30s) accept the gay community according to YNet. Less than Greece (53%) and Poland (42%). This is despite dubious Israeli boasts about Tel Aviv being a Levantine San Francisco.

  6. what a moronic piece of proposed law from country that is famous for denying democracy to others i mean why would you settled for same-sex civil union when you can have marriage

  7. The Israel Parliament will just vote this down – like they did with the same-sex marriage bill last year!

  8. Go Tzipi Livni! You’ll need time, patience and über luck with those conservatives.
