  1. Shows such as X-Factor do nothing to help. There is a mainstream programme where the number of gay/bisexual singers are probably numerous each series yet for ‘image’ reasons they’re paraded as ‘men’s men’ and ‘oh look at this lady with big boobs he’s with’ – all to hide the reality. This may not have been the case with Marcus Collins but it has been in the majority of cases. What will help tackle homophobia is greater visual examples not desperately keeping people in the closet until either the series has finished or their music career is considered fully ‘milked’. I’d love for these shows to allow and encourage openly gay contestants rather than embarrassingly hush it up like they do now, and we can all name examples, and then pretend there’s no discrimination.
