  1. As a northern Irish gay man living in Spain this is AMAZING as NI is such a homophobic society riddled on one hand by the Catholic church and on the other by Paisleys fundamental anti gay Free Presbyterians……but ROCK on God….show them that YOU are bigger than religion….

  2. Colin (London) 14 Jun 2013, 6:10pm

    Good luck Mr Mayor.

Well done Northern Ireland. Let the people speak. Believe in the people not the churches.

    Well done.

  3. This is a surprising step in the right direction in horribly backward Northern Ireland! Very good news!

I was reminded of the bigotry of Northern Ireland every time last night during QuestionTime when journalist Lesley Riddoch piped up. That woman looks soft and gentle, but, hell’s teeth, there’s Northern Irish bile a-bubbling beneath her skin.

Radical changes like the appointment of this gay mayor will slowly transform Northern Ireland.

  4. Great progress!
    And he’s cute!

  5. “Cllr Muir told UTV: “My sexuality hasn’t been an issue for me nor for my electorate nor my constituents since I became a councillor in 2010.”

And that is how it should be. His sexuality has nothing whatsoever to do with how well he does his job. Well done Northern Ireland and congratulations Cllr Muir.
